Yes to Canola, definitely NO to olive oil. Canola is the "perfect" oil for cooking. It is the healthiest of all oils, and in fact is healthier than olive oil, but has no flavor so many people prefer olive oil.
I have switched to Canola for all my baking, and find that compared to corn oil or "vegetable oil", it browns more easily and cooks just a little faster.
I'd recommend testing the brownies a few minutes before you would normally test them.

Canola oil is vegetable oil
and dont ever use olive oil in replace of vegetable oil in brownies because olive oil has a really strong flavor and will make them taste like crapola

Yes you can use canola oil instead of vegetable oil (just don't use olive oil)...you could even use apple sauce instead of the vegetable oil for a somewhat healtier version.

Yes, you can. If you are going to use olive oil...do not use extra virgin olive oil...it will add flavor. You can use flavored oils as well...but I would mix at about 25-75 ratio. I like doing hot pepper oil and canola oil for an extra kick.

Yes - I always use canola oil. Also, in cake mixes, I've used applesauce in place of oil.

for a low-fat alternative, use 1/2 applesauce and 1/2 oil. I wouldn't use olive oil b/c it has a low smoke point, and it might make it taste weird. Yum brownies.....

Canola is fine to use. The applesauce suggestion is good, too. Sometimes, I'll use grapeseed oil as well.

I do that all the time, and I've never noticed any difference in the taste of the brownies. Go ahead and use it.
