All school subjects lead to a TEMPORARY life of less that 120 years. The study of the bible leads to an eternal life. I'm interested on the thoughts of everyone, not just the children of Jesus. What I'm saying is that it's not that hard to study a bible.

The answers have been really enjoyable, so far, as it is few and far between when it seems that we can get a disection of our societies thoughts and practices. Reguardless, of my thoughts or beliefs, it IS NICE to see why or why not we do certain things on a daily basis.

Unless somebody who loves the Bible presents it for study in terms of language, history, law, culture, art, poetry, etc; it may not prove all that interesting.

People caught up in the spirit of their own interests, who stand against Christ, or do not have any revelation from Christ, may not find it pleasant to read.

They may miss the fact that it imparts eternal life to us daily ---not just x number of years from now. In fact without the spirit of Christ; to read and study His word may at best only put one to sleep in their chair.

God is blessing you if you find it "not that hard" to study the Bible. It can get even better as the years go by. It can convey true peace, real joy and even be food for your body.

Because when you study a subject, you try to approach it with an open mind, not a preconceived belief, and then research, gather data, evaluate sources, and use critical thinking skills to decide for yourself what you believe.

Many people, in fact, do not take this approach to "studying" the Bible at all. In fact, they are "anti-study" and simply read the Bible, take it literally and assume it applies to them and whatever situation they are currently in. In addition, they have preconceived beliefs and then look in the Bible for whatever supports those beliefs, and discard whatever is uncomfortable for them.

It would certainly help if more Christians actually encouraged people to "study" the Bible and think for themselves, before making a decision. Unfortunately, many churches, and hence, many Christians, are unable to combine faith AND reason (or critical thinking) to help people make informed decisions. Instead, they seem more interested in promoting an agenda (e.g. "Believe it Jesus! Or you're going to Hell!").

And by the way, it is very difficult to study the Bible. The Bible is a very complicated book, written in several different languages over thousands of years spanning across very different cultures. There are very difficult passages in the Bible that we, as 21st century Americans, have to work to understand. And that's that I mean by reading ALL of the BIble, not just the "easy" parts, like John 3:16.

Because they put their faith in things, possessions, popularity, self image, all the things that are either delusions or made of dust.

I think some people answered to the effect that we'd have no light bulb if Edison had studied the Bible, implying that one is unable to study both. That's the lamest form of defense and is akin to the question about why Christians take aspirin. Sophomoric at best.

Most of these answers come from people who are proud and arrogant and believe that they are in charge. That is an illusion, but a powerful one, as powerful as a drug.

God bless.

1) If you don't buy into that "eternal life" nonsense, then studying the bible to get it is a waste of that valuable, short life you mention. Of course, people should study the bible in order better to understand the majority of Western art and literature, but it's not essential (only advisable).

2) Why exactly is eternal life so desirable? Have you really thought about this?

How do you know that by studying the bible, it leads to eternity? What evidence do you have for making such a claim.

P.S - Do not submit biblical text as evidence.

Have a nice day ;-)

When has it been proved that studying the bible leads to eternal life? Maybe when that's proved, more people will study it.

Assuming eternal life is real, studying the bible does not guarantee eternal life. How you live your life would be your key to eternal life.

Its bad enough that we have to study things that are boring, now u want everyone to study the bible?..
I'm sorry but I'm not religious, and the bible is just another history book that goes on and on about something that's boring.

Just an eternity of contradictions, circular arguments and unanswered questions.

It has also undergone a lot of editing from popes and leaders all throughout history who were attempting forward their own greedy agendas.

As a book of fables, the bible comes close to Aesop's great works, but let's not get carried away.

I think the mistake here is in the assumption that the Bible actually leads to eternity. The truth is that it's such a badly written collection of nonsense that the act of reading it feels as if it takes an eternity.

Because the Bible doesn't lead to eternity. No matter how well you know the Bible, you're going to be dead and gone within 100 years.

Besides, knowing the Bible does not imply believing what it says: on the average atheists know the Bible at least as well as do believers.
