Actually, yes, the Chinese do eat cats, as it is a delicacy in that country. I once saw a documentary on it, and it is really a horrid process for the cat. It usually involves grabbing the cat with a special set of tongs around the neck, then dipping it in boiling oil while it is alive. The time in the oil isn't very long, and sometimes the cat is still alive when it is pulled out and skinned. It isn't fully killed until it is beheaded and gutted.

BTW, during the depression era in the United States, cats were eaten by those who were desperate for food. This is how the term "rooftop rabbit" came about.

How they get fried rice and egg fu yung or sweet and sour chicken or even the shrimp that they put in fried rice out of cat would be really something. I would imagine that there are some chinese people that might eat cat although I dont know why since from what I hear cat meat is like shoe leather , but chinese food is not made out of cat.

As a few ppl have said already, yes it is true.
I live in Hong Kong and cat or dog as a dish is forbidden. But if you go in the North of HK, and you place an order, you can get dog to eat. It is hard though.
In China, its a whole different story. Very easy to get, either cat or dog. You get to eat whatever you want over there. Now, how the animals are treated is another situation.
Koreans eat cats, dogs and live octopus as well.
Different countries, different habits.

I don't know about other countries, but in Canada at least there are health and food inspectors that regularly make "surprise" inspections at restaurants. I work for a company that delivers food to various types of restaurants and while most of the chinese restaurants don't order the "best" quality of meats, they order beef, turkey, chicken, and other meats considered acceptible in North America.
It's MUCH more common to find insect parts in food.

I have seen documentaries about Asian countries that cook and eat cats. It's a cruel and painful process. Luckily, here in the USA we have regulations by the food and drug adminstration, and animal right laws which do not allow the killing of cats for food. So you shouldn't be eating cat anytime soon if you live here in the US... Unless it's done illegally.

you know I dont know for sure, but anymore I wouldnt doubt it! Ate at a real chinese place in china town in chicago just the other day and I believe I ate chit-lins! They sell that stuff here in many of the grocery stores. And it looked just like it! For those of you who are new, chit-lins is beef, pork, or any animal guts. Cow guts, Pig guts, etc...Pretty gross huh!

haha. I am pretty sure that is a myth. But who knows they say rumors get started somehow! I am pretty positive though that if you eat at a chinese restaraunt with a good reputation, you have nothing to worry about. Have no fear! It really is chicken! Besides a little cat never hurt anyone.

In china and korea and other asian countries it is normal to eat cats.

In canada and the US it wouldn't make sense to make food out of cat as cats are for more expensive then buying proper meat.
