I need to update my personal survival kit -- what is your latest?
Also need to back up an old friends survival kit from WWII. The minimum is as follows:
1. Sub-machine gun, your favorite.
2. Ammo, much as you think necessary.
3. Case of cigarettes.
4. Case of bourbon
5. Case of chocolate.
6. Case of pantyhose.
7. Case of toilet paper.
My friend's theory: Throughout history, In time of war or disaster, women always have what you need. If he is right the above barter items seem pretty good? But I am wondering if we need to substitute something in place of pantyhose? Are they still the best thing for this kit?
ps. The machine gun is just to protect the survival kit.

Very funny but for the sake of arguement. In occupied europe luxery items were at a premium. But people had food, water, shelter, etc. So you stock luxery items thinking that you could trade for what you need but they will run out eventually.
The first thing in a survival pack is your brain. At one level if you were occupied a usefull skill would make you necessary to the occupiers...... allowing you to obtain what you need. On another since occupation is unlikely you have to first cover food, water and shelter. Once that is covered the knowledge to be able to obtain these regardless would make you valuable to the community. And at it's basic level being able to make an alcholic beverage from whatever once it all runs out would be key.
Submachine gun? Not. Are you going to blow all of your rounds as you have not been trained? A simply maintained revolver, rifle or shotgun would be fine and could be used to hunt.
Bottom line is again...... even if you lost all of your supplies the one thing that cannot be taken away is the ability to aquire what you need regardless.

My thought is, for a man at least, if you want to survive in the military, don't wear pantyhose.

The pantyhose is not for WEARING. It is used for other things.
