Mostly compatiblity with dvd-players and "recording" quality. DVD-R having the best compatibility since it was the first fromat followed by DVD+R and lastly DVD Ram. With quality, DVD-R has the worst, DVD+R has better, DVD Ram has the best. More info from the link below.
