Your friend/co-worker just wants to feel superior by putting others down. Granted, Phillipines is in a bad spot right now, but back in 1950's. It's economy were thriving, and way ahead of later economy wonders like Taiwan, Hong Kong, & South Korea.

If you really want to stop the abuse, be blunt with the guy. Telling him what you think, and let him know that Mexico is a critical juncture right now. Its economy is trying to grow and become a matured entity like the one in US. Yet, it is starting to suffer the same outsoucring problems as US. The gap between rich and poor is much wider than the one in US, even the one in US is pretty significant already.

Kinda focus on the economies of the nations here, but then again, US will not be in such commanding position in the world if not for its economic prowess.

HI, first of all not all Mexican-Americans are ignorant jerks like your co-worker...thank goodness because I'm one. Just ignore him, he knows absolutely nothing about different cultures let alone his own. I have a lot of Filipino friends, and I've never made fun of them or put them down. It is true about the Spanish culture...you wouldn't know how many times I've said a word in Spanish and then have them laugh because they understood the meaning or vice-versa. I have never been to the Philippines but would love to go someday...I've been told it's amazing. Just enjoy the company of your wife and forget about him...he doesn't even deserve you talking to him.

There is something cultural about it.
We always take the mickey out of Yanks Irish and Aussies.

I know other countries take the mickey out of other Nations, so it may be possible the Mexicans take the mickey out of Filipino's. If that is the case try not to be offended but if is just him he is being racist
Talk to him but don't mention racism as you will only get his back up, just tell him you think he is offensive, a more gentle word

I hope you understand my 'drift' so to speak

Good Luck

i've heard from most people that mexicans and filipinos doesn't click. you'd rather pair a filipino and a black person than filipino and a mexican. i truly believe he has "something personal" against filipinos. come to think of it, this two cultures are very similar. like family oriented and their spiritual beliefs.

IGNORANCE.... no one ever takes the time to read history and find out about different cultures.. just too eager to make fun off and discriminate against.. if people were not so fast in judging people this world would be great... ...

Your friend is insensitive and just plain dumb. Its an enriching experience to get to know people of different cultures and in the US especially we are all immigrants and we or our forefathers came from somewhere else. All the more reason to show tolerance and respect to others and appreciate the differences.

People are just plain stupid. As a Mexican, he really shouldn't be opening his mouth. Carlos Mencia consistently makes fun of them but then, he makes fun of everyone. I guess people do it to make themselves feel/look better. You should firmly tell him off about it. If he doesn't want you referring to him as a "lazy, no driving beaner," he shouldn't say anything negative about your wife. You should bust his @$$ if he keeps doing it and drop him as a "friend." He should go to California or Texas and see how American's truly feel about Mexicans.
