when i was growing up in the LDS church....every sunday we would hear stories from the congregtion about the service they performed for that week.........the little old widow that just lost her husband of 50 years, the family with 5 kids and one is mentally disabled, etc, etc. didnt matter if they were church members, and it wasnt just mormons, i would read in the paper about lutherens, catholics, everyone helping out to make the communty better....but in the last few years it seems the religion of christianity "church" has brecome focused on what to outlaw instead of who to help, unless of course they can be converted. and whats worse, is we all have to hear "god loves ME" god has a plan for MY life. and people praying for all matter of things. has anyone else noticed this shift (i noticed it a while ago and that when i left the fold, the whole paradigm of the religion shifted, fromm love and service to hate and banning stuff). am i delusional? (i already know im not)

Kudos! You make an excellent point. Christianity seems to have become about absolving oneself of all accountability and self-responsibility.
The word "love" has become trivialized with all this "God loves you" stuff.

It is important to note that all living beings are selfish in nature. It is not possible to be unselfish unless you are a saint or God yourself.
One should not generalize on the nature of a group based on someone's specific action because we all make mistakes sometimes.
The notion of "God love Me" should be extended to "I am doing this in the service of God", and not that "I am doing this for the betterment of the society" because the latter you just cannot do.
No two humans are the same in this world. If you want the groups to act and do better, you set an example with your good deeds. I am sure there will be a couple of people like me who will follow you.
In the field of humanitarinism and spirituality, one must look towards someone better than him. Only then his feelings can stay stable.

Selfishness is an ego thing... a thing done based on an incorrect view of some perceived inherent "I" which doesn't really exist outside of labels. Ego and self-concept know no relgious or philosophical boundaries and people will work overtime to protect that same unfindable "object" known as "me, myself and I". People usually use religions to help prop up that same sense of self, but it's because most Western, monotheistic religions are generally dualistic in nature anyway.
All one can do is cultivate a logical understanding, themselves, that there really isn't a findable, inherently existing "I" and work on your own wisdom and altruism from there. Maybe you'll serve as an example, or maybe you'll just bring results yourself and your own happiness besides the lives of those you touch in such a manner... either way, it's an improvement.

People tend to be helpful, thoughtful, generous and kind when they have everthing they need to survive and more. If survival is threatened then generous is the firtst thing to go. By the way Christians are individuals that believe in Christ and are not any one type of religion. If you believe in Christ then You Are A Christian.

I think you're right, Christians do tend towards the *********. But then many people do, regardless of their persuasion (why is a religion called a persuasion anyway?)

Don't equate LDS with Christians.
I find Christians to be the most generous people I know.. However they will tell you the truth about yourself and that probably hurts.

Yea, it would seem that way. Just so long as you recognize that, and stay involved in OUTreach, not so much as INreach, if that's your passion.
