Absolutely! Soda is basically liquid sugar. There are more than 100 calories in a serving-140 in a can, and much more in a bottle. And all those calories add up, especially if you drink more than 1 can a day. And they're all empty calories with no nutritional value. Even if you drink only 1 can a day, that's almost 1,000 extra calories a week!
Diet soda typically doesn't have any calories, so it doesn't affect weight.

According to a recent study that ran on Yahoo News, you can gain 15 pounds in one year just by drinking one can of Coke every day. Soft drinks are LOADED with high fructose corn syrup, which is the father of all dietary evil -- causes weight gain, can cause Type II diabetes, raises "bad" cholesterol, lowers "good" cholesterol. Not good.

Yup yup yup! It's empty calories, to your filling yourself up, but not getting any nutritional vitamins and minerals. Also they're full of sugar, which isn't necessarily bad for you, but most of us eat much more sugar than we need, and our body just stores it as fat, so yeah, soda generally makes us put on weight.

Lots of calories, lots of sugar...unless you are running around burning all these calories off and all the calories off from food - you will be gaining weight.
If water is too plain for you, try flavored water (sugar free kool-aid, lemonade, cystal lite or whatever it is).
