Aliso Viejo is a new city and faily inexpensive and right behind Laguna Beach. Location, Location. You can take the toll road into Costa Mesa or if you are working by the 5 Freeway, you don't even need the tollroad. Rent for the first year to get a feel for the area, neighborhoods and prices. Everything south of Costa Mesa is wonderful, but the prices will vary.
You will be shocked at the prices of homes compared to Dallas, but the weather and things to do here are worth MILLIONS>

It really depends on your price range. Needless to say your going to get half the house for almost twice as much as you paid for the last one. The cheapest city within the vicinity is Santa Ana, but most of it is wranchy. Tustin and Irvine are both good choices, Tustin being the less expensive of the two, but getting to Costa Mesa from there is going to be super trafficy. I dont know the price of realestate in Laguna Hills or Mission Viejo, but they are both worth looking into, because they are both super nice areas, and he will be going the good by far less conjested way to work. Costa mesa and Newport are the nicest/closest, but really pricy. However if you can aford a house big enough for the two of you, your almost garenteed to make money if you choose to move in CA, so maybe since it is just the two of you it could be a good choice.

I highly suggest Irvine. It is the city just east of Costa Mesa. It is a very safe and modern city with easy traffic. My wife and I moved there 4 years ago without much knowledge of the area. We drove around and found Irvine to be very nice and safe, so we chose to live there.
There are many nice apartments in Irvine, most of them are owned by the Irvine Company (www.rental-living.com). They have one central office that can help you find an apartment at their many locations. Personally, I hated living in their communities, but there really weren't many options. The properties are pretty nice, but the management was terrible.
My suggestion is to find a townhouse in Irvine if you can. We have been very happy with the one that we are renting and our landlord isn't interested in jacking up the rent every year. Irvine has many parks and community pools as well as HOA pools. You really can't go wrong. It costs only a little more to live in Irvine but there is very low crime and you will be travelling against traffic in most instances.

If you can afford the beach-Newport Beach for sure...specifically Lido Isle, Balboa Island or the peninsula. If you can't, I would say Tustin....very wide range of housing and a really quaint little Main Street area! Any of these are within 10 minutes of Costa Mesa.

Lucky You! If your husband will be working in the Costa Mesa area you would probably want to live close to that area to avoid commuting any great distance. It will help to keep his stress level down. All of the surrounding area communities are relatively clean, modern, & safe, but they will be some what expensive.

hi, final summer season I made the circulate from L.A. to Portland and that i could no longer be happier. As for wheather you may circulate or no longer, nicely i think it relies upon what area of L.A. you like. in case you like Larchmont, Los Feliz/Silverlake, Hollywood, then you particularly'll like it. in case you're extra of a Westsider and luxuriate in Montana, Rodeo, Beverly center, then possibly no longer. Portland has a real village style of sense to it. From my domicile i'm able to stroll to diverse super eating places, bars, coffee shops, and markets. that is marvelous and extremely un-L.A. the climate...yeah it rains. yet i stumble on that folk make a much bigger deal of it than that's. i individually like it and so a great way have not had a concern in any respect. of direction, i grew to become into under no circumstances one to tan in any case. Yeah, the activity marketplace isn't so warm reckoning on your profession. i'm a instructor and had assorted activity can provide when I moved up, yet some acquaintances in different fields have not been so fortunate. As for the fee of residing. Yeah, that is extra low priced, yet no longer ridiculously so. All of my utilities are significanly larger than in L.A., gas is an analogous, food an analogous (nevertheless extra effectual high quality). nevertheless housing is a lot extra low priced and lots nicer. there are countless wonderful apartments and residences with character to % between. Come on up and examine it out. I visited in the process spring destroy final 3 hundred and sixty 5 days and ended determining to purchase a house. Oh, and that i've got got here upon human beings to be particularly friendly. So, looking well matched those with an analogous pastime should not be too puzzling. sturdy success

If I were to move to CA again...I would rent an apartment for the first year and spend weekend house hunting. It will pay for itself in the end.
