wouldn't it be better to have positive reinforcement, like Thou shalt be a good person...etc

I like it. Nice question. But you know god... he's a pretty negative and punitive kinda guy...

absolutely
i think the world would be much better if we had to follow more positive , optimistic commandments
children do not respond to negative rules as much as they do to praise for good they do

thou shall be a good person
thou shall be happy and make others happy
thou shall make a difference to peoples lives
thou shall look after the earth and all who live on it

i think these would be good ones

When people are turning away from God, there is no positive enforcement. Turning away from God is not positive.
