If i join the Marine Corps Infantry what exactly will i have to do?

I'm looking at becoming a mortarman for the corps and I know the book answer. but anyone who's been there could you help me out and tell me exactly what ill be doing.

Pass the tests, and fight for your country. The Military will decide what job best suits your capabilities. Do that job well, and you will be promoted.

In boot camp and for the first thirteen weeks, you will be learning to be a Marine. Before graduation from boot camp you will have the opportunity to put in a request for MOS. You will not be told immediately if you have been accepted, but mortar man is one job that is needed along with many infantry and crew-served jobs.

Get through the rigors of boot camp first, with short order drill; physical challenges; discipline; marching every where you go; rifle range; personal hygiene; Marine Corps chow; six hours of sleep each night; etc. Then, worry about MOS school and what your first assignment will be. Don't let a recruiter tell you what it will be, because he doesn't know any more than you and I, what you will be doing following boot camp.

0311 here, if you want to be a mortarman, then you will get that job if you can handle it. You'll go though 13 weeks of boot, then spend 8 at School Of Infantry SOI. It's an awesome ride. Good luck.

Keep in mind this individual and the one posting below him have no experience in the military regardless of him putting "ex military personell". If you go make sure you believe in what our country is doing over there. If my opinion means anyhting, we are doing the right thing and your joining is for a noble cause. These are kids, you are becoming a man, don't take advice from the ignorant. Go fight for your country. Your MOS will be mainly shooting artillary rounds giving indirect support to other troops.

Pretty much the same thing as a rifleman except carry about another 80 lbs of equipment (tube, base plate or ammo).

a mortarman 0341, is either in a line company and shoots 60mm mortars, or is in a weapons company and shoots 81mm mortars.

Lots of running and hiking, lots of classes and instruction, gun drills, live fire exercises, deployment, possibe combat.

Be prepared to accept any order no matter how stupid, idiotic, irrelevant or inconsistent it may seem but, more than that, be ready to go anywhere in the world at a moment's notice, kill people who are probably only opposing you because your government has illegally invaded their country or interfered in it's internal affairs and die for the sake of such an immoral and unethical cause. You may also be required to be wounded, maimed and crippled for the rest of your life if you don't manage to die.

Dude, you're going to iraq. you won't be firing mortars at anyone. Your only job will be to go on patrol and be an infantryman.
