I am about to make a peanut butter pie recipe that calls for one package of cream cheese. I have two, but I didn't realize they were past date. They were best before February 07/07, So a month past due. I tried a small taste and it tastes okay, and smells okay. The recipe isn't cooked, it's just mixed and chilled. Should it be okay to use this recipe that is a month and a day past date? Thanks for your help, and please, only answers from people who know for sure. :) THANKS :)

Thanks guys. I live a six block walk from the grocery store, and went down and got some. :) Was hoping to avoid the walk because it's COLD out, but it's worth the peace of mind. :)

If it's still in the unopened package, it should be alright.
Food in its original package will keep past the "expiration date". That date has a safety factor built in.
If it looks, smells, and tastes alright and has been properly stored, it should be OK. Cream cheese usually molds when it spoils.

Chimpus is correct. There is a saftey factor in all things. Did you know that eggs last up to a month past the date stamped on the cartons? With cream cheese, it will begin to mold when it goes bad. You are fine to go ahead. Don't worry. Enjoy!

from working in the food industry the date on a package is simply the last day a store should sell the product! it is still good for 7-10 days after that date. even eggs and milk.

It might be okay to make your pie today, but if the whole pie does not get eaten right away that cream cheese is still in there getting older and older....it may get nasty way before you'd expect your freshly made pie to go off.
I'd get a new one, don't risk food poisoning.

if it hasn't been exposed to the air and has been in it's wrapper unopened you'll be ok, BUT, I have a rule, anything I have to smell to see if it's ok is out, trashed, kapoot, gone. It takes less time to go get fresh then to keep changing the waste can next to the toilet

If it's been refridgerated and unopened I think it should be okay. If you tried it and didn't get sick it should be fine.

I agree, if its not opened and passes the "smell" test, you should be fine.
