My puppy has little red dots on her and some hair loss, skin is not thick, no puss does not look bad. She scratches but she has no sores.Can this be some kind of mite other than mange?

Could be localized Demodex (mange) Not contagious to other pets or humans so don't worry. If it is just small patches then it is considered localized. Take ur pup to the vet and they will do a skin scraping to check for an abundance of the mite. Every dog carries the mite, its just an overgrowth in it that causes the mange. Demodex is super common in short haired pups as their immune system is not at its fullest potential yet. If it stays localized your vet may just send you home, tell you to keep an eye on it and it should clear up on its own. Good luck! I went thru it with my American Pit Bull Terrier when she was younger and she is doing great now. Hope everything turns out good for you!

Mange is general larger patches of fur missing, your dog can have a variety of things wrong: Allergies to food or flees or shampoo, Demodex (small mite simular to mange but to a lesser degree). I would recomend going to the vet as the above posters mentioned.

I would suspect fleas more than the mange.. Mange seems to be around the eyes, on the legs and the chest... Ear edges etc. You would have to get the vet to check, do a scrapping maybe to find out more.

I cant say for sure because your dog should be seen by a vet but I have one dog (of 15) that scratches alot & we have discovered that he has dry skin from sitting near the heater all the time.We have been using a releif spray for his hot spots.It seems to work.But,,he also needs something for the dry skin.Bathe him in a dog shampoo that is made for dry skin & a conditionor also.
