We have a 13 week old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. He is the love of our lives! We can't be happier with the breed that we chose. Briar is 6.5 pounds right now. I just wondered if any others have experience with this breed and how big theirs were at about this age. He has a small body, and is a little leggy. I am just curious. I have done a search on the internet, but I haven't found a site that suggests what weights should be at various ages. I know this seems to be a silly question, but I just wondered what to expect with our new baby:)

Mine was about the same size at 13 weeks. He also was a bit "leggy". As his coat grows in and he gains weight this will become less apparent. He now is 14 months and is about 15 lbs. One of the reasons he may look thinner to you is that you are probably comparing him to pictures of a Cavalier who has a full grown, untrimmed/uncut coat, which is the breed standard for show-quality dogs.

As long as he is playful and energetic, he is eating enough and will fill out. Enjoy your little buddy, ours is also the "love of our lives!"

Congratulations on your new puppy! I am getting a male cav this weekend. I am going to name him Syrus. The weight of your dog is fine. I have a book on the breed, thats how i know. And being a little leggy is normal. Once his coat grows out he will look like what you are probably picturing in your mind.

I didn't get my Merlin until he was 6-7 months old. He still had a leggy look to him but he's abou the size of my 11 pound cat, sorry can't say his exact size, taking him to the vet in soon, He'll grow into his legs, I've been told.
