Get a friend to ring the door bell and don't answer it till the dog stops barking, if he is barking because he wants to see the person on the other side you are contradicting this behavior and reinforcing the behavior to be quiet. Please don't use bark collars, and the penny method mentioned above is a good method however you must make your pup think the enviroment is making the noise and not you other wise he just won't bark when you are around or when you have the penny can but will bark any other time.

Well, first off, how bad is it? Does he just bark a few minutes and stops or is it where he goes on for more than 10-15 minutes and you're getting complaints from neighbors? If it's the first, just get over it. Dogs bark to warn you that someone's at your door. That's a good guard dog, I wouldn't change it. If it's more where it's for a very long time and neighbors complain, try a squirt bottle with water. Just spray it at his back or his feat and add a firm "no". Also, you could try the can idea where you fill it up with change or pebbles and shake it with the firm "no". I agree with person who doesn't like the bark collars. I am not a big fan of them. I'm a dog training instructor and I cringe when someone wants to go that route. If you do not have complaining neighbors and eviction notices, please don't go that route.

Some pet stores such as Petco or Petsmart sale a gadget that stops your dog from barking. When the dog barks it emits and ultrasonic sound that humans can't hear and the dog stops barking.

Obedience training. He needs to learn to 'look' to you for guidance. This means actually look at you for what he should do.

This is done by working on a long lead, sit/stay, and also to hold a treat up to your forehead and ask him to "LOOOK", he looks you in th dace, he gets the treat.

After obed training sessions, which must be done consistently...he will begin to see you as leader. He needs to learn to sit/stay at the door whenever it is opened, or the bell rang.

He should be allowed to give the first few barks of alert, but as soon as you arrive, he needs to learn that you are in charge, it's your door, and you are the leader.

A dog barking crazily at the doorbell is a dog who is stressed and is looking for guidance. He is not protecting as much as he is crazily saying, "what is it? What do I do?"

Start working with him, he will surprise you. Use turkey hotdogs as reward, and great enthusiasm.

Have Fun!

disconnect the doorbells, dogs are supposed to bark they protect you and your home. They can hear stuff way before you can.

What I did was shake a can with pennies in it and said quiet! Most dogs will go quiet to see what made that noise. As soon as she went quiet I praised and gave her lots of treats so now she knows the command quiet.

My dogs use to go crazy when they heard the door bell also. Since their hearing is very keen and can hear the easiest knock on the door I unhooked the door bell. Now my door bell is my dogs.

unless you get a barking collar you really can't. the dog is telling you that someone is trying to get into our house and that you need to see who it is because his paws can't turn door knobs. your dog is trying to talk to you he's not trying to scare anyone.

barking collars are not such a great idea. imagine if someone put a collar around your neck that sprayed you in the face or shocked you everytime you tried to talk. you'd become anti-social and scared. please don't use one of these... they can damage a dog's mind.

let your dog bark. he's just talking like you or i do.

permit him bark for the count form of ten and then compliment him: "good boy, it somewhat is sufficient." %. him up or call him over and cuddle him. If he keeps barking, close his mouth consisting of your palms and say, "sufficient." This worked on my canines.
