If you live in the US, go to http://www.friendsofanimals.org/programs/spay-neuter/index.html . You can enter your zip code and email address and they will send you a list of participating veterinarians in your area and a link to purchase a low cost spay/neuter certificate online. The only time I've seen free certificates is when you adopt one directly from a shelter...but it's still not free because you usually incur an adoption fee that covers a vet exam, spay/neutering and immunizations. Friends of Animals is a great organization and $51 to neuter a male cat is dirt cheap! Good luck!

When is your birthday? If you can't find a vet that will do this for free, do you have friends or family that can give you this money as a gift? Maybe your friend will pay for it just so you can take your cat home. Since you are on a fixed income, I hope you have the financial ability to pay for the food and litter (if you care keeping the cat indoors), flea protection and shots as needed.

If you live in the UK you can contact Cat's Protection on
08702 099 099 and ask them to send you an application form for a neutering voucher. The voucher will pay for most of the cost of getting your cat fixed ( I just had mine done and had to pay £10) most vets will accept these vouchers.

Call a cat rescue and ask. If he is not a great health, they may not neuter him until he reaches a healthy weight and has all his shots.
