i grew up in a small town in india, and have been living in london for many years

i simply miss those samosas we used to get from the shop keeper at the end of our street - he used to fry them in a massive pan and give them hot to us - so yum !!

you just cant find the same samosas anywhere !!

when i was a little girl, my grandfather used to hold my hand and walk me to his friend's home-run ice cream parlour in the summers. that was the most creamiest, most delicious icecream i have ever eaten.

and there was another little shop where we used to go before the indian new year (diwali) and my mom dad would let me and my sister choose our favourite sweets - we used to take box fulls and then exchange amongst ourselves... they were just fantastic !!

oh i miss all that food (unhealthy as it sounds )

my mum is a good cook, and i visit her sometimes and she cooks for me, which is fab,

but its the food i grew up eating, that i know will never return.... i miss the most :(

My great grandmother's fried chicken. Nobody (even my grandmother who is a terrific cook) made it like Granny.

I also miss tomatoes and raw peas from the garden. Nobody (at least, nobody in my family) has a garden anymore. You can get comparable vegetables from farmers' markets, but they're not the same as going out in the back yard and picking them yourself. Picking the perfectly ripe tomato, brushing the dirt off, and eating it (still warm from the sun) is one of the best feelings in the world. :)

When i was at primary school about 20 odd years ago, they used to serve these big cheese, puff ball things, cripsy on the outside then they had a melted cheese in the middle, not very healthy now but they were yummy

There was a chocolaty spread called "Koogle" from the early 70s. I loved it on my toast!
In the 90s, Nutella made it's debut. I was delighted to discover that it tastes very similar, if not the same, to Koogle.

My grandma's bread. Fresh out of the oven with butter. Of course she was old-school German and never wrote anything down. I found a relative who knows how to make it...I was thrilled! But she doesn't know the exact recipe, it's all by eye so she can't write it down either!

I spent many mornings with her before school and she'd always serve me her bread, cranberry juice, and her cookies. Good times.

My dad used to make stir fry at home. It was only an occasional thing, and I haven't had it ever since I lived there! It's been way too long for something so good...

when I used to visit my Nana in North Anston we would go to my Uncle Franks house and he would make cheese and onions that you ate with biscuits! Bovril on toast! The fish and chips that came in newsprint with a splash of malt vinegar. I miss those things!

My mom made really good chicken cutlets, but she just buys them at the store now.

I also miss one type of cookie that Keebler used to make; it was shortbread filled with chocolate...so addictive!

I used to eat Twinkies and those were great. I miss them now and then but I know if I had one now the taste wouldn't be the same (it would be way to sweet and sugary for me).
