Jonah 3:4 "And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown."
I saw some people say that a true prophet's predictions must always come true - but this one didn't come true - Nineveh was spared. So was Jonah not a true prophet?
If not, why?
If he still was true prophet, why?

I get that the Lord was giving a conditional warning - but according to the KJV, the actual words out of Jonah's mouth were a straight forward "In 40 days you will be overthrown" there doesn't seem to be any conditions in that statement. Is it just that everything he said wasn't recorded?

It also says, "And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not." Jonah 3:10
So, God spoke to him but changed His mind when the people repented. That doesn't make Jonah a false prophet -he did what God asked him to do.

He was sent by God for the purpose of delivering a message. He is therefore, a prophet.
Whether one is a prophet or not does not depend on the response of the hearers.
About Jonah's message- if the Ninevite people did NOT repent, surely they would have been overthrown. God said it.

That was not a prediction or prophecy. that was a refusal by Jonah to do the will of the Lord. For Jonah hated the Ninevites.

He was if he had not warned them and they did not change from their evil ways it would have come true he spoke what God told him to so he was a prophet. Its as God said in the end of the book you had pity on the plant should I not have pity on 250,000 souls when it angered Jona that it made him seem as a false prophet.

He was a prophet, but they repented, so God didn't destroy the city. This was more of a warning (which is also a prophecy). They had to repent of their wickedness, or God would destroy them in forty days. They did, so He didn't. Does that make better sense?

Jonah was a prophet. His prophesy did come true. He said, repent, or God will destroy. The people repented and God did not destroy. Where did he prophesy falsely?

Yes and the prophecy that Jonah gave was a conditional one that would happen if Ninevah didn't repent. They did so God cancelled it.You are misapplying things.

Prophets hear from God, learning something they would not otherwise have know. The ability to "predict" future events is not a requisite of prophecy.
