I'm not a Jehovah's Witness, but I don't "think" it says to replace Lord with Jehovah. From what I just learned a couple of weeks ago is Jehovah comes from YHWH. This was the name of God. It is in my bible, I saw it. But, I can't seem to find the chapter/verse. From what I was told, people throughout time was afraid to say YHWH(Yahweh). Since everyone was afaid to say the word, the pronounciation was lost/forgotten. Basically, I think they came up with somehing that they think was the correct pronounciation. So, through the centuries of translating the bible into different languages, the word Jehovah came about. IEHOVAH is an English pronouciation of YHWH. But, it changed again as the English language has changed throughout the centuries.

Like I said, this is something that a literature teacher taught my a couple of weeks ago. I don't know if it's 100% accurate or not.

Well 1st john 4:1...says that many false prophets have gone out in the world

So these false prophets have gone against Jehovah, so they are trying to cover up the truth, so they have taken jehovah's name out of the bible and replaced it w/ lord or god.

in the a part of the scripture it says dont' believe every inspired expression but test the inspired expression to see whether they originate w/ God, Many don't do this, and its plain to see cuz people celebrate holidays, think jesus is god, believe in the trinity, the cross, hellfire, life after death....and all those things do not originate w/ God.

You know a lot about Jehovah's servants. You must have studied the Bible with us.
What did Jesus say would identify his true followers? That we would have love among ourselves, which we do.
Also that we would be hated and persecuted (John 15:17-19)

The King James Bible says at Psalms 83:18--"That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth."
The New King James Bible says at Psalm 83:18--"That they may know that You, whose name alone is the LORD, Are the Most High over all the earth."

Did they replace the only name of God with a mere title of LORD? Yes, they did---This shows complete disrespect & dishonor for the creator of the universe.

The important thing is to use God’s personal name in whatever language you speak, rather than insisting upon the impersonal! The name “Yahweh” is certainly preferable to the non-name “God” or “Lord”.

(Psalms 83:18) That people may know that you, whose name is Jehovah, You alone are the Most High over all the earth

(John 17:26) [Jesus said] I have made your name known to them and will make it known, in order that the love with which you loved me may be in them

It's great when Christian cults disagree with each other, but nothing is much more dangerous than all this quibbling over purely imaginary ideas.

But I think the tradition from whence this particular idea originates was that the Hebrews would replace the holy unspeakable Name of God, IHVH, with the title ADNI, Adonai, "My Lord," because it was believed that to pronounce the Divine Name correctly would cause the universe to crash into dissolution, which was considered to be inconvenient for most practical purposes. It's not based on any particular "scripture" that I know of.

JC Redding, you seem quite infactuated with Jehovah's Witnesses http://answers.yahoo.com/my/profile;_ylt=AgVJ_rO8LxDQaqoVpRQ317Dd7BR.?show=dnNAKxUQaa so why not take on their offer to a free home Bible study and they arrange your personal studies when it suits you best.
Please go to the link in sources where you can get details from the official Jehovah's Witnesses site.

With your personal home study you can ask all your questions galore and have them answered. It costs nothing and if you are truely interested then I am sure you will have no objection

Thank you.

Mr Redding you want a direct answer yet ask multiple questions. Then you would take an opportunity to a face to face meeting with Jehovah's Witnesses if you have such convictions about knowing them?
This is not avoiding a question it is not getting into a fighting arguement which is not the way of Jehovah's Witnesses. Jesus called Bible truths "pearls" and to becareful where we cast them so not to get trampled on (Matthew 7:6).
Take up the offer of a free Bible study if you are truely sincere, like I do myself. You can ask in earnest all the questions you desire that are honest hearted.
If you want an arguement that sorry I will not support you on that.

That is the answer to your question. Show your trueness in accepting a Bible study. I will look forward to how you get on.

To Suzanne,

Jehovah's Witnesses do not believe using the word LORD is sinful. In fact many of their publications use the word LORD but often prefer the name of God Jehovah as we have a personal relationship with God we wish to respectfully use his name. There is certainly no sin in using the title LORD and Jehovah's Witnesses never have thought it was sinful.

As for your thumbs down for showing the truth - Jehovah's Witnesses are used to that but we go out door to door and conduct over 6 million home Bible studies worldwide.
In my experience face to face discussions are far more valueable that is why I do not get into debates on the internet as Jehovah has already arranged proper channels of doing the ministry.

i am not a jw, but the Lord is referred in my NIV as God.

Do not go about spreading slander among your people.....i am the Lord........Leviticus 19:16

These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: a proud look, a lying toung, and hands that shed innocent blood, an heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. proverbs 6:16-19

Oh my, I never thought I'd be defending the JWs, but here goes ...

Whenever the word "LORD" appears in our Bibles, the actual Hebrew word appearing there is "YHVH" (also known as the tetragramaton) or, as some pronounce it, "Jehovah." JWs are actually correct that our Bibles have removed this Holy name. Our understanding is that "LORD" should be used out of respect for His Name. (I do, however, believe the JWs err when they conclude that using LORD is sinful.)

If you'd like to see proof, here it is:

http://www.blueletterbible.org/cgi-bin/words.pl?book=Gen&chapter=2&verse=4&strongs=03068&page=

EDIT: Wow, from the thumbs down, I have to conclude there are folks who don't care about the real truth. Click on the link and you can see the actual Hebrew -- including the Tetragramaton in place of "LORD."
