My question is this, why did it take him 7 days to do it? Think about it. "In the beginning, god created the heavens and the earth." I assume by "heavens" they are referring to the rest of the known universe. So, in one day, god could create billions of known stars, galaxies, blackholes, and everything else out there, but it took 5 more days for him to create the seas and the land, all the plantlife, animal life, and one whole day on man. So, he can create a universe in one day, but it also takes a whole day to make man?
And, if god is omnipotent, could he has done it all in an instant. Sort of a "I Dream of Genie" fold your arms and blink move?
Back to the omnipotent issue. If he is all powerful, why would he need to rest afterwards? Doesn't that imply he does has some physical weakness just as humans do?
Here is another thing that bothers me. After the original sin. Adam and Eve hid from him. It talks of him walking in the garden "looking" for them. If he is all that the bible says he is, shouldn't he have known where they were. Seriously, why did he ask them if they had eaten the "forbidden fruit"? He should have already known the answer to that. It reminds me of my mom, as a child, when she knew I had done something wrong, but asked me about it, giving me the chance to lie to her, and get myself into more trouble.
And, why put the tree there in the first place? It's like putting a person in a room with a bunch of black buttons, telling them they can push all of them, except the red one in the corner. Didn't god just set mankind up to fail in the first place?
And, why does the creation story occur twice in the bible? Genesis 1 and 2 give two accounts of the creation. If you look at the writing style, you can see it is two different writers, but they are contained in the same "book".
And people wonder why I do not believe the bible is more than a book. You can't make it two chapters into the first book without seeing all sorts of problems and errors.

Days in the Bible can mean different lengths of periods of time. The book of Daniel is well known for using days and weeks in meaning for years.
The creative days in Genesis 1 sensibly refers to 7 stages of creation that took eons of millions of years and not literal 6 x 24 hour periods with a day [a period] no creative activity.
The Earth was created in a figurative 1 day and not 7

God didn't rush. Actually, He could have made it all at once, in a split second. But he took His time. There are some things about God that we won't understand until we are face to face with Him.
Also, the person above that said one day could have been a thousand years...they are misinformed. I used to think the same thing...since there is scripture that says a thousand days is like one....however, the days that it is talking about in Genesis refers to one 24 hour day. =] I'm not sure of the exact word, but it derives from a greek word that means day.

Just to let you know the Hebrew word in the first chapter of Genesis which has been translated day, has a second more accurate translation which means a finite period of time not necessarily a day.

The bible was written for primitive nomadic people who had only recently left the hunter gatherer stage of human development their conception of time would have been vague , their math would would not have gone much beyond counting their livestock and their history would be passed down by word of mouth, The Book of Genisis in particular should be read in this context.

God's time is a lot different than our time. One day could have been thousands or millions of years.
Your "overtime" comment is quite funny though.
