Hi, I am 14 years old, ll4llbs, 5ft 5 and I am in grade 5 ballet. Does this mean I am too tall/fat/old for a career in dance (not on stage)???

I have known a lot of ballerinas in my time, some close friends. I love the art of ballet; I think it's beautiful and timeless.

However, I also believe that ballet is one of the worst art forms when it comes to weight/height/shape discrimination.

All of the girls I knew who danced were obsessed with their weight and how skinny they were compared to some professional dancer or some coach at a summer camp in New York.

You are a fit and talented dancer, especially if you are level 5 already. Your body size/ratio sounds perfectly healthy.

If you want to pursue a career in ballet, do it. It's a great thing to do especially since you are able to express yourself. I believe a career in any art form you love is best because it's really YOU, and not just something that conforms to modern society's need for more engineers or lawyers.

Do what you feel in your heart. Just don't obsess, for your own good, about your size or image.

Good luck. =)

Depends on with whom. If you Want to dance, and you're good, you'll find a venue that works for you. If people say you're too old or fat, you're with the wrong people!

No. Nobody is fat slim, long, short, ugly, crooked...in any kind of dance.

Daning is a melodious and graceful method of expressing oneself.

DANCE ON!!
