Look.....parents are going to be parents. You are the child, and even more so.....you are their daughter! I have three brothers and am now 25 years old. Even now, my parents are still very protective of all of us.....especially me. It's only natural! Just be honest and upfront with them. If you have a really good relationship with one, or both of them, sit down with them and tell them what's going on. Share your excitement, because there is nothing to be ashamed of! This is only natural and we all go through the big breaking news about having a significant other in our lives. Just make sure it's someone that you feel that you can bring to them. One of the best ways to break the ice is to invite them over for dinner.....or something low key that will allow everyone to get acquainted. The worst thing that you can do is hide this from them, though. If you do that, your parents are going to be hesitant in letting you go out and do things with him. Act like an adult.....and you will be treated like one. Just give them time to digest the fact that their daughter has an interest. Hey, they had to go through the same thing when they were your age! It will all be ok, trust me. Just let time take care of everything. Good luck. : ) I just know you will be fine.

i can't understand why your parents would get "mad" because you have a boyfriend?

you can say "hey mom (or dad)! i met someone i like very much!"... and take it from there.

i'm sure your parents had boyfreinds/girlfriends when they were growing up too. how do you think they got together?

all kidding aside, i think it's nice you met someone you like. i guess i would tend to think your parets are very strange if they'd become upset about you having a new friend?

all the best!

Well, if you're older than 16, they probably won't have a cow. If you're 12, that's another story.

If the guy is in his 20's they'll have 2 cows.

Plus it depends upon your definition of "boyfriend".
Have you had "the talk" with your mom, yet?
Maybe even you have an older sister you could talk to?

Approach mom and dad honestly - tell'em. If they blow their stack - then you'll know.

Well you didn't say how old you are or how old he is. I would talk to them about it and see how they feel. If it is too early for you to be dating then ask if you can be friends and go out with a group of other friends. Start slow and then build up to romance. Sounds like you're young and unsure so you probably need their advice.

Just tell them they may not react the way you think you are being truthful and a responsible person when you let them know up front, don't hide it that's when they will get upset=)))

When ever in doubt tell the TRUTH!

I do not know how old you are, but if you tell them that you understand no sex and say all of the stuff they would want you to hear, they will understand

I don't think it is a question of how, it is when. The sooner the better.
