i dont upgrade my bike just for looks. im getting a crap load of new parts to get ready for this coming race season. my current bike just never fails to amaze me at how unreliable it is, which is why i constantly buy upgrades. but i wont need to after my conversion cuz im getting all the good stuff - Epic frame, rock shox fork, combo of LX through XTR parts.

Sexy good looks for the 07 parts! Shouldn't be any weight difference...

You really need to stop upgrading your bike and ride it!

I just continue to be amazed at what you are doing to your bike... we used to call you guys "style geek"... no offense intended.

I once retrofitted a bike for a person from XTR to their pneumatically operated components- I forget the model- this guy just banged around the neighborhood or rode around town with his bike on his Mercedes SUV...he spent $800 to paint the bike to match his SUV and more than that for the "slammin' derailleurs". Did he need this upgrade? No. Did he have the money to do it? Yup. Do you?

There is no appreciable performance difference between XT or XTR as far as I'm concerned, but then again I would never put a carbon stem or handlebars on my bike either.

I think that all XT and XTR stuff is compatible since 2004. Since you work at a bike shop you should have a Shimano catalog hanging around.

I think they have improved a bit the performance. If your buying new, why not look at SRAM x.9 or x.0? It's just another option, and I've heard a lot of stuff about it. It just depends on which shifters you have. I have integrated shifters, so my bike is married to shimano drivetrain, but if not, I would really love to test the SRAM stuff.
