Im getting married in the Caribbean this October 3rd. It will be a nontraditional wedding and we are only inviting 4 guests which will be our parents. This is what I originally wanted to wear http://www.dessy.com/index.cfm?go=bridal&style=1002
He will be wearing loose cotton like the guy in this picture
http://www.pjmaxltd.com/
but since the wedding is nontraditional I wanted a nontraditional dress…something short, sassy and fun. Does anyone have any ideas or a website(s)?

WoW, I have gotten so many positive responses about the dress I originally picked out...THANK YOU. You see, I don't have any girlfriends so I don't have anyone to ask these things to. This makes me question everything that Im doing. You all are so nice. Thanks a lot guys!

I think that dress is georgeous, very soft, flowing and very romantic. It is nontraditional wedding so who says that you cannot wear this beautiful dress?. But the outfit the guy is wearing though is way too casual for this long dress. What I would like your future husband to wear at the wedding is what they call a white linen men's unstructured jacket with lapels meaning it is light with no lining. Tommy Bahama menswear would carry that style. He should wear a gauzy type shirt white, the unstructured jacket and white linen pants with white loafers with a colored flower boutineer. Wow, that look would compliment your gown. Also you should bring in some color with your bouquet. If you don't feel comfortable wearing that gown, then do a search on line: non-traditional wedding dresses. See what comes up. Also I looked at the dessy.com website and #1006 is georgeous and very very romanticand a tad less formal. That also would be very appropriate for your wedding too. I love that dress too alot. Check it out. Don't go too sassy and too casual, because it is still a wedding, even though it is in the caribbean maybe on a beach or maybe in the hotel you are staying at, you can still wear these gowns...because they are chiffon and soft and flow. What I think you should change is the outfit for the groom. Whatever you decide, your taste is beautiful. Either gown, or if you go with a short dress, fine too, but not too casual. Remember, you are going to look at photos 25 years down the road and you will in the future be happy you went a little more formal and classic. Believe me...I am older and wiser.

Why did you want to change your mind for the dress? I love that dress and think it is absolutely GORGEOUS!! The back is wonderful.

How sassy do you want to go? You could get something still elegant but not white if you wanted like

But I think when you look back you'd rather wear white.

Other than that, here are some others

David's Bridal has a style called Galina that I think you might like

Also, Thread has some great ones. A lot of shorter ones.

But I think if you want it a lil shorter you should consider tea length or maybe just getting it hemmed a lil higher so that it's not dragging the sand but still long and loose like that. I wouldn't want a short dress like at the knees or anything. Take that first dress and get a hem put on it like this one.

Try looking at the department stores at the Prom dresses. I tried looking at Macy's just now and I know they have far more than are on the website.

But honestly I don't think you can find one as pretty as that first one. I think that first one is just perfect. It will be beautiful in the pictures and that back just is so Caribbean!

You need to try on lots of dresses and concider how they flatter You, not how good they look on a coat hanger. Remember you want to look at your best in your wedding photos. These are the most important pictures of your life we are talking about.
Actually I don't like the one in the first picture for a wedding dress at all. It looks uncomfortable for the islands and what is she selling? The back looks like they ripped the veil down the middle and used it to lash the dress to her back. The front doesn't look very islandish. I agree, for the island wedding you need something more airy and innocent looking.
The girls dresses from the "his outfit" site seem to have a lot of scooped out front hems.. I don't care much for legs in a cave.. but.. Other dresses at that site have some points of hemline. That would be more fun and floaty and some of them are shorter. They are more tea length. a nice look. Also I like the halter look tops.. they do flatter the face. You can change the look of those tops with the placement of a corsage here or there, plus they make jewelry or a flower lei, look good.
Keep in mind that people here in the states will not be there with you, so all they are going to have to go by is the pictures. I think you would be happiest with the dress that flatters you the most in the pictures.. forever.. :)
Remember your children and your grandchildren are going to be looking at your pictures. You want to look your very happiest and best. Congratulations on your future marriage!

Your decision of gown is gorgeous. Understated attractiveness! Your maid's robes could be corresponding to yours--in case you had them shortened and extra a cap sleeved jacket--a close-by seamstress could do this--and doubtless use the fabric from shortening the dresses--then the superb suited might experience the dresses--or you have gotten the jacket made one colour darker for assessment. OR, stay with all long robes to experience, which will seem wonderful, and have the maids donning the jackets (there are some lace fabric available that are very extraordinarily, additionally) definite, David's Bridal has a gown on your decision of colour for the maids and that i think of you may elect what you already know. i wish this has been efficient.

Go to a dress maker, look through some pattern books to get idea. A true dress maker could put together the look you want. Be specific. These sleeves, this bodice, neckline, skirt shape. and you can pick out fabric.

I would go for something more tropical and loose in feel.

Personally for a Caribbean wedding your dress doesn't match the theme, I think that the one in the other picture with what your fiance will be wearing is more of a match it is breezy fun if that is what you are going for.... but in the end you have to wear what you want IT IS YOUR WEDDING AFTER ALL...

I love the one in the pic and am totally jealous, I wish I had the bod to wear a dress like that! If you want something short, I have seen several short wedding dresses on www.alfredangelo.com, or you could do like a dressier bridesmaid dress in white, that could work!

I don't have an answer for you but wanted to say that your wedding sounds like it will be so beautiful. I too had a non traditional wedding. She wore vintage 60's....something Audrey Hepburn would wear. And I wore nice jeans and a tie that matched her dress. It was great.
