don't brush it.
use a wide tooth comb and pick at it. otherwise, like you said, it will get really frizzy.

I also have very curly hair and I have to wash it while I take a shower and its wet or it will frizz out if I try to brush it while it is dry. Also when it is usually dry i can use a pick to go through it and it will not take the curls out.

I have very curly hair too. So does my daughter. We both use a frizz gel and a pick....we never brush our hair.

I use a big wide toothed comb and lightly stroke it into the hair.
For long hair I comb from the bottom up so you are not pulling on the hair.

well get a pick. it is the only type of comb that won't take out the curl.
