My boyfriend and I are moving into a pet friendly apartment together in a few months. He's a total cat person and his last cat died pretty tragically. I've never been a cat fan and am horribly allergic to them but would like my boyfriend to be able to have one.

Is there a shot or medication I can take to curb my cat allergies?

Talk to your doctor they can prescribe you something for it. I have allergies now to my cats (never had allergies before when I had cats), but they are very mild and doable.

Good Luck!

My mother, sister, and cousin are all allergic to cats - they all have cats. My mom built up an immunity - she toughed it out without allergy pills and went from her face swelling up to absolutely no reaction in about a year. My sister uses an off-brand of Benadryl, because the real stuff makes her drowsy. She doesn't have much of a reaction other than the itchy, watery eyes now, but she's been using allergy meds for the past 3 years she's had her cat. And I don't think my cousin takes anything anymore. One of my friends is also allergic, it's not severe, she just gets itchy eyes, so she just takes Claritin before she comes over. Just find out what works best for you.. or whomever has the allergy. (:

You can get on allergy medicine, but you will still probably be stuffy and have a runny nose. (I'm allergic and have 2 cats).

The main things you will want to do is, keep them out of the room where you sleep, vacuum often, have your bf brush kitty daily, wash your bedding in hot water weekly, use a HEPA filter, wash your hands after handling kitty, and if you're brave enough...bath kitty.

Good luck!

Yes, you can get medication and shots for this. I have cats and I'm allergic, which my doctor told me to make one of my rooms clear from anything to do with a cat, so that might help, say your bedroom or such, but, go your dr. they can prescribe you something, and you will be fine..take it from a cat person, I wouldn't give them up for anything, and even if it means taking meds all my life, that's fine by me..good luck.

I am allergic to cats aswell, I'm like a human cat hair detector.....one trace of cat hair...and WHOOSH, i get all coughy, sneezy, puffy eyed and generally feel rubbish. But, i find that living with cats seems to help, i used to stay with my friend (who has a cat) about 3 times per 2 weeks and i became less and less allergic to them as time went on. But i'm sure your Doctor can sort something out.

I love cats myself and I'm allergic as well. There are shots (in the nose) that your allergist can give you for this.
(But, the doctor will tell you to get rid of the cat)
I only react badly to them once in a while, such as when they go to a "groomer" or when I cuddle with them. Good luck!

Get rid of the cat or get a new boy friends if you boy friends don’t understand your health problums then he is an *** and care more about the cat then you. Why should you be drugged up all the time! You will be very unhappy and miserable all the time.

I had a cat and found out I was allergic to them. The Dr I went to said I would be defeating the purpose of getting shots for my allergies if I kept the cat and I would be better off getting rid of him. I am very allergic to them myself. Believe me you will be miserable if you live with one, medicine or not. You will be sniffiling and scratching your eyes constantly. Forget the cat or find a new boyfriend. Sorry, just giving you some advice from someone who knows.
Good Luck.

well, if you're horribly allergic to them I would suggest getting a hairless cat. there are meds to treat animal allergies and you should go to you doctor and ask him instead to relying on us to name medicines...there are also home remedies.
