To get buff, you'll need to do some type of resistance exercise. Weights would be best; don't worry about getting embarrassed. Everyone in the gym who is buff now was a skinny little twerp at some point.
If you really don't want to go, you can get a weight set at home, or you can do calisthenics: pushups or bear crawls for chest and shoulders, dips or diamond pushups for triceps, pullups for biceps and back, situps, crunches, and leg lifts for abs, and lunges or squats for legs.
To get big and buff, you'll also need to eat plenty of protein to give your body something to build muscle with. Eat 1 gram for every pound you weigh, every day. You'll also need to eat plenty of calories, to give your body the energy to make the protein into muscle. Since you're really skinny, you probably have a really high metabolism; this means you'll need to eat much more calories than most people. Most people can gain muscle eating 2500; I'm skinny, and I had to eat 4000! Some good high calorie foods are peanut butter, pasta, and ice cream.
Don't worry about getting fat; for high metabolism people, it takes concious effort to gain fat. Unless you do absolutely NO exercise, you're probably alright.

Eat lots of protein for muscle building. This is what you make muscle out of. Dont forget to eat the carbs, lots of carbs so your body burns that instead of your stored fat or calories. You are not trying to lose weight to so keep replacing it. You have a really fast motabolism that is why you are soo slender. Pasta, rice, breads, bagels are good for the carbs. Any red meat for protein. But any meat is good, fish, pork chicken , beef, moose lol. Push ups, cruntches lunges, chin ups. Lifting weights can be done at home. Check out gargage sales through out the summer to get used home workout equipment for great deals. Hope this helps. As far as the gym goes who cares how you look use everyone elso as a goal. make friends and get advice from fellow builders. Good luck and Good health to you.

Sit ups, push ups, squats, I'm sure there's more.
I just hate working out because it's so unproductive, so I pick physical types of work to do then that way at least something gets done.
Walking is good too, as is riding a bicycle.
Doesn't have to be strenuous but if you want the truth, harder is better.
Either way, consistency is the key, along with physical activity.
