I've never heard the term applied that way, but the mind is a powerful thing. Attitude has a very big impact on how quickly people heal from major injuries for example.

A Placebo is a control drug, it has no effect and is given to one person in a drugs trial and everyone else has the test drug. Alot of the time the person who has the placebo has similar effects to the people who have the real drug. This is known as physcosematic (not sure of the spelling), the brain thinks it should be having these effects, so it makes your body feel that you are.
Hope i'm right about this and the information helps.

The placebo effect is a psychologically produced effect based on experience, expectation and mental processes. It is a term usually used in relation to healthcare and refers to the fact that a pecentage of people will get better from certain illnesses through their psychological response to receiving treatment even though that treatment might have no known physical effect. The use of placebo tablets is a routine part of drug research and within any study often 15-20 % of people in the study will show signs of improvement even though they have taken a dummy pill (placebo). If you're interested in it there's a massive amount of literature on it .

the "Placebo Effect" is the affect that the mind has on the body when a person believes they are actually taking a specific drug for a specific condition.... sometimes Dr.s will prescribe a placebo....and the mind takes over from there....keeping in mind that a placebo is only a sugar pill.....
The mind/body symbiosis has amazing abilities....one can control pain, stimulate healing, etc through the power of thought.....mind you there are some conditions that just need some professional help, but you'd be pretty amazed at what the mind/body thing can achieve.

It (in psychological terms) refers to the phenomenon that if people think they should get better, because of medical attention etc., they will get better.
If people are referring to this effect, they most likely mean a "mind over matter" type of thing where if you think you will get better you will get better.

The placebo affect refers to a pill that has no medicinal value being given to a patient who thinks it is real medicine. It gets in their head so much that it is a beneficial medicine they end up thinking it is working so much their symtoms will lessen or go away comppletely!
