You have the Sunni, Shiites, Sufi as the more prominent Muslim sects.

You also have some minor Muslim sects, the Babis, the Azalis. You also have the Baha'is who claim not to be Muslims but took their religion from Islam.

I'm sure there are more.

Islam means submitting to God, someone who submits their will to God is a Muslim. There are two main groups Sunni (which is the biggest) and Shia (which is smaller of the two). I think the third would probably be Sufism.

As someone above has said called Muslims "Mohammedins" this is incorrect.

A Muslim is a follower of Islam, just as a Christian is a follower of Christianity.

Three sects of Islam I know are Sunni, Shia, and Sufi.

Islam is a religion. A Muslim is a follower of Islam. The factions of Islam arise from arguments about who should have taken over the church when Muhammad died.

There are a lot more sects in Islam than just Sunni, Shi'a, and Sufi.

I believe in the teachings of the Prophet (SAW) he says that there will be 73 sects in Islam.

Islam is the religion of muslim and muslim is the person who believes in the one ness of Allah and believes as Prophet Mohammed (Pbuh) as the last messenger of Allah
Sunnis are the people who believes in the teaching of Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) and loves the Family and Four khalifas and the companions of Prophet Mohammed (pbuh)
And about Shias I heard that they hate the companions of Prophet Mohammed (pbuh)
And Ahmadies are the people who belives Ahmed kadiyanee as the last prophet
And dont worry there will be 40 different types of beliver in Islam because Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) has said this and only one will be the rightious way of believing and that is the way of Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) and his companion (pbut) has showed the right way of living.
Dont hate any companions (pbut) of Prophet Mohammed. (pbuh)

I think so. The whole Sunni and Shiite thing (don't know the other) is from a dipute over who should have taken over as the leader of the Islamic people after Muhammad's death-Muhammad's uncle or nephew. (If my facts are straight.)
