My cousin just found two puppies on the side of the road. They were starving so he decided to pick them up and take them home. Im helping him take care of the puppies but one of them has diarrhea. The other seems to be doing just fine. Im just worried about the one with diarrhea. His eyes, ears, nose, and mouth have no discharge coming out. Is it his food? Should I feed him some puppy formula mixed with puppy food? Is he sick? Please no critism, I am for sure that their owners abandoned them. Any advice will help.

We found them yesterday. We are going to get them to a vet because I have some dogs too and I don't want them getting sick. And the "Humane" Society isn't very "humane" here it you ask me... They are about 1 1/2 monthes...

Try a little kaopectate or pepto and be sure you are feeding dry food. Stay away from iams its too high in protein for him right now. Be sure to keep plenty opf fluids in him. It is imparative!!!

You and your cousin are the very best! You really need to get the pups to the vets as soon as you can. They can better treat the pups than anyone here. They can also tell you what breed they may be and what to feed them and probably how old they are.
Get them to the vets today OK.
Ok then you can give the pups with the runs some cooked chicken and rice for now. Give about 1/2cup at a time, lots of clean clear water. Feed the pups 3 times a day. You should probably keep the pups apart until you know why the one pup isn't feeling well. don't go and get a wormer right now because you don't know if that is the problem or not.

You should first call a vet if your local vet is out of town look in the yellow pages and call another one. They can over the phone tell you what to feed the puppies and what to do until your local vet comes back. I would suggest a diet of some boiled chicken no skin and some plain cooked white rice. This is what my puppy was on when I first got her. Try that out and mix some with some puppy chow to soften it up and see how that works. I would keep the puppies away from your dogs until you know what is going on with these puppies. Being that they were dropped of you know they havn't been taken care of and you don't know how long they have been out there and what they've been trying to eat. Good luck to you

I think it's great that you are helping those poor animals.
The puppy with diarrhea is more than likely very very sick.
It probably has an infection and worms in its stomach.
You need to get it to a vet right away because if you don't it will probably die. Young puppies systems are so delicate that they dehydrate very quickly and lose a lot of potassium and calcium that helps their heart and lungs work right.
Even though your vet is out of town, do a search online or in the phone book for an out of town vet with emergency
hours. Call them say you have an emergency and take the puppies to them RIGHT AWAY.
By the time your vet gets back it will probably be too late to save the pup.

First let me tell you that I think it's really great that you rescued the puppies. I don't know how young or small the puppies are, so I'm not really sure how you should be feeding them. Try wet puppy food, see if they can eat dry food as well. My parents always give the dogs some white rice when they have diarhea, but I'm not sure if the pups are too young. Try to get them to the vet soon!

you really need to get them to a vet asap. if they have never had their shots they could have parvo, which is highly contagious and you risk your own aniamls lives. other than that, the sick one could have worms or a parasite. or it could just be extreamly scared. many pups have parasites, when i got my pup the entire litter had a very common one, and they all needed to be on meds. diarrhea can become deadly if the animal gets too dehydrated. you dont know how long they were left alone for, and if they are only a few weeks old, they shouldnt even be away from the mother yet. you'll need to give them formula, and just a good dry puppy food, mixed with some water to soften it up for them. get them to a vet to be checked out.

if there is no vet around you might want to try some strawberry extract ... then make up a batch of boiled hamberg with rice... use the same water you made the hamb in and add the rice... the mix should be 50/50... give the puppy some honey 3x a day for a couple of days to avoid other problems that might arise along with the diarrea... it could become lathargic ... well i hope this info helps... i deal with puppies regularly and am a home breeder.

Most importantly...have you taken them to the Vet???? Diarrhea is a symptom of so many things. Diet could be one, malnutrition, dehydration, worms, parvo. Being that you do not know their history, it is so important not to try to diagnose them yourself, but to take them to a vet asap. Diarrhea can dehydrate a puppy so quickly, and can be devastating to them. Get the vets recommendation on diet. Whenever my dogs were sick, for any reason, and were either throwing up or having diarrhea, my vet always said to feed them a bland diet. Cooked ground beef mixed with cooked rice is always good. Check the puppy's stool closely to see if you can see any worms in it. If so that is probably it's problem. You can get dog wormers at the pet store. It would still be best to get both of them to the vet asap! Congratulations to both of you for being compassionate in rescuing them....and a curse on the ones who abandoned them! Best of luck to you and the puppies!

Be extremely careful with the dog with diarrhea he might have parvo. Check the smell of the diarrhea if it smells like dead wrotting flesh you need to get him away from anyother animals. Parvo can spread and can kill him if it is not treated. Also the dog might be having a stomach problem if he is not use to the food you are feeding. Pending on age 6weeks or around that try feeding him a little bit of wet mixed with dry food or even formula mixed with dry. He might not of gotten enough formula and his stomach might not be ready for regular food. If he continues to have diarrhea more than two days and its constant like really bad constant consult a vet.

Give him some canned pumpkin.. Not the kind you use for the pies with the sugars etc, the plain canned pumpkin. It will help with diarrhea. Then give him something very bland to eat, boiled chicken w/ rice, that kind of thing. Little bits at a time. It's possible that the diarrhea is due to him not eating anything and the food is alot for his little tummy to digest.

the diarrhea could have been caused by the food. but take the pups to the vet for the first round of shots and to make sure it doesnt have any worms. this is jst to make sure everything is good and you, yourselves wont get sick.
congrats on 2 new pups.
