My name, though a common female name, is frequently mistaken for being a man's name.

I'm used to it, but it really gets my goat every time it happens, which it does since I communicate often by e-mail for my work.

Is there a polite way for me to let people know that I'm not Mr. but Ms.?

It is a good idea that you learn how to always write your name fully e.g. Miss or Mrs. Mary Allen for more clarification but i rather advise that you send a short note attached to mails telling them that you are Ms and Mr since you communicate often by e-mail, there is nothing wrong with that or if some of them have telephone, (GSM) numbers, you can give a shout to tell them your gender. on the contrary, it is not something that makes someone angry. I have the same issue with you, people often mistake me for male; address a letter to me as Mr. Timothy meanwhile my name is Timmy because the person was treating my file and he had not seen anything to convenice him of my gender, so what i did was to get in touch with him in person and he apologised and many have apologised to me, normally, when people don't really know you in person, such things are bound to happen. Don't be disturbed.

I agree with the advice given so far...add Ms. to your name on your emails.

In person? Just gently correct the person making the mistake.
I think the suggestion you already have here about emails is good.

try adding the MS. to the front of your name when you are writing correspondence.

Whenever your name appears, put 'Ms.' in front of it.
