My daughter has always been a great sleeper. The last few nights she has waken up in the middle of the night crying. I have had her sleeping with us so I don't have to run to her. I rub her back and legs and she goes back to sleep. What could be waking her up? Any advice to help her sleep through the night again? Thanks

Maybe she is dreaming or maybe she is hungry or has the belly ache. my little girl is almost 2 and she used to wake up crying because her legs and feet hurt so we would have to rub them and she would go back to sleep. The doctor said it was growing pains.

I think it is hard to tell what goes on in the minds of our children, but the best way to find out is to ask. My daughter (4 now) would wake up crying and come into our room and crawl into bed with us. Sometimes she would stand at the foot of the bed without making any noise, just crying softly, until I woke up to see her there. I would scoop her up and lay her down, and she'd be back asleep in a few seconds.

One night I asked her if she was scared. Not an open ended question like "what's wrong" or "what's the matter", but are you scared. She said yes, and I had her take me back to her room and show me what she was scared of. Once I got her talking about all of her toys in her room, or her posters of the princesses and barbies, she was fine.

I do agree that the best thing to do is to go lay down in her bed with her. It gets her comfortable being in her bed, not yours. That was a mistake that we made for quite awhile before we fixed it!

good luck, I hope you figure it out soon.

Well it could be she has a tummy ache or maybe she just needs the comfort of her mommy to help her sleep better. I think what you are doing is great, and I don't see no harm with letting her come in your bed every so often. I did it with my kids and they are older now and have no problem with sleeping in their own bed. It's just something that she'll have to grow out of. You are doing a great job. I have heard of some parents that just let their kids cry themself to sleep or back to sleep. I would rather comfort my child too just as you are doing, then every one sleeps better.

Give her some milk before sleep. I think what your doing is good, but you could also just lay down next to her until she falls asleep. Read her a good story too :)

Psycho-babble...she is starting to define herself as her own person...she is starting to realize her self identity, blah blah blah.

I just told you so you may understand her state of mind, she see's herself as separate from you and whe she wakes up she doesn't see you, it is scary for her. The logical answer is that she will grow out of it, but that doesn't stop your from feeling bad for her because you can't solve the problem.

For me, I chose to let my little girl sleep with me. She is now almost 5, and she still wakes up occasionally and crawls into bed with me.

Letting her sleep with me helped us both sleep through the night.

It could be anything, bad dreams, belly ache, etc. I would highly suggest that you comfort her in her own bed. You don't want her to get used to sleeping with you because it will just get harder to get her back in her own bed. Good luck!

You will probably never know it could be anything.
Maybe she has been having bad dreams, or she has growing pains or she could be teething.
