At about what age do cats/kittens come in heat?

Around 5 months, on average - but 4 or 6 months is not unusual. In some rare cases, a kitten might reach sexual maturity as early as late in their third month.

Get them spayed as soon as the vet is willing - some say wait till 6 month, but most don't anymore these days. It's best to get it done before the first heat, since every heat cycle the cat goes to increases their risk of several kinds of cancer, including mammary and bladder (it's due to the rush of hormones). A cat that has never been in heat has a very very low risk of getting them later in life.

I've always had my kittens spayed or neutered as soon as they were around four months old. However, the female cat I have now, came in heat for the first time at when she was just three months old which was a surprise to me and an earlier than planned visit to the vets for her. It's really best to get your cat spayed as early as possible.

I have had 2 female cats from kittens, and from my experience, they usually come into heat anywhere from 6-8 months. Usually in late winter, early spring is the first time. From that time , they can go into heat every couple of months. My outdoor female once had 3 litters in one year. If she's an outdoor cat, best time to get her to the vet to have her spayed is during the winter months, cause once Spring arrives, it's very difficult to make sure she is not pregnant. Good luck!

Anywhere around 5- 6 months old. But have your cat spayed before hand. A cat that is spayed before going into heat is much healthier and lives a longer life (if kept indoors) than an unspayed cat. Another good reason to have your cat spayed is because a female cat and her female offspring could possibly be resonsible for producing up to 420, 000 kittens in a seven year period! People who own animals have the responsibility of doing the right thing in preventing overpopulation (that's why we're considered smarter than animals- we have the means of doing this for them and for ourselves) so please do the responsible thing and if you own an animal, get it spayed or neutered or don't own one.

Cats are referred to as "polyestrus," which means that they will go into heat cycles periodically during their fertile years. These heat cycles may start as early as the fourth or fifth month of a kitten's life, and will continue until she is either bred or spayed. Normally around 6 months but it would be unsafe to allow the animal to get pregnant as it could damage them. Normally breeding should start after they are a year old even if they start coming into heat earlier.

Actually, I just took my male cat to be nuetered and the vet said that female cats come in to heat in the spring and with increased daylight. My male cat started his "adolescence" early because the male can sense a female in heat within a three mile radius. so I would think that a female might be able to be a month early too.
