Generally speaking, chickens and other farm animals are not allowed within city limits. There are a few exceptions, but one complaining neighbor can lead to lengthy legal battles and more problems than a chicken is worth.

It's best to find a rural area where you can give away the chickens. You can usually find a farm that is more than willing to take in a few extra chickens, and (from personal experience) will even agree not to eat them.

I would think it depends on where you live in SD. My granparents live in Lakeside and they have horses and use to have chickens and the neighbor across the street has lots of chickens and roosters. I would check with the city and see though. I know that you all have a lot of codes and stuff that we dont have in Oklahoma. Also if you live in an apartment you would have to ask your landlord or see if there is a no pets policy. If you live with your parents then you would have to ask them. but over all you will have to see what codes and stuff you would need to be updated for in order to keep a chicken and see if where you live they are allowed. Also you have to keep in mind the neighbors. The smell can be horrible and if you have a rooster they crow constantly (or at least my grandmas neighbor's rooster does when I'm trying to sleep in) Well thats the only advice I would say. Good luck

in all probability not. you would be able to desire to invite a city respectable or regulation enforcement officer. i might think of that chickens fall under the class of "livestock". in the event that they are allowed, there are in all probability some regulations bearing directly to residing areas, feed, and waste administration, as properly as assets limitations for you. by using the way, have you ever raised chickens earlier, in a city or someplace else? they are messy, loud, aggressive, and flighty (no pun meant). in the event that they have chicks, the chicks can honestly in good condition by using "poultry cord" and wander off. Chickens can fall prey to canines or different, greater "undesirable" carnivores like raccoons and opossums. Roosters oftentimes have a recognition for attacking every physique or something who gets close to sufficient to lead them to sense threatened. (And, specific, it hurts. plenty.) Chickens prefer to roost in trees or different places the place it somewhat is impossible to realize them. in case you're raising them for food, the 1st time you decrease one's head off and watch it run around for a minute is kinda extraordinary. they don't seem to be friendly pets...they have their own schedule and inner hierarchy, which does not incorporate you in any way.
