It's bad manners to sit there reading a newspaper or hanging out for a very long time anyhow; in most places there will be other people waiting to use the restroom. Taking a dump on the road is often a necessity, but reading a paper or a book or generally sitting there zoning out for a bit should be done at home only.

Yes, a 'courtesy flush' would be good etiquette. I can't say as I've ever really had to worry about it though, I mean other people not flushing. It seems to me most people don't go number 2 in public bathrooms unless they have no choice.

I don't know many restrooms that large!!
Of course, the idea is to flush immediately and it is nice to find a small atomiser bottle of air freshener .... I believe there are liquids that are in non-aerosol containers and could easily be transferred to a small atomiser.

I think it is proper ettiquete even in your own home to flush after you do the dirty deed. Who wants to sit in their own funky smell?? That is nasty. Absolutely nasty!

I think you should flush instead of letting it marinate, but people are people and you cant change the world.
