We got a cat about 8 months ago, we spayed him and de-clawed him and just recently he started to pee on the couch. It's not like he is spraying, it is more like he is going up on the couch and peeing just like he would in his litter box. I don't know how to stop him from doing it, I've had many cats in the past and they have never peed in the house outside of their litter boxes. Please help!!!

Anytime litter box behavior changes in cats it CAN be a sign of a Urinary Tract Infection...this requires a trip to the Vet.

Have you changed litter, bought a new litter box, changed the location of the litter box, had some other change in your house?
If none of those applies, then you should have him checked for a possible UTI.

You're also going to have to get the urine smell out of the couch or he's going to keep going back there...a product called "Natures Miracle" is great for getting the smell of cat urine out.

Good luck!

It could be medical. Does he eat low-ash food? You should have him checked out by a vet. It could also be behavioral.
This is more common among declawed cats, because they can have pain and frustration issues. Sometimes the solution can be a simple as deodorizing the area and placing food there (many cats won't go where they eat.) Because declawed cats have had part of their toes hacked off, some kinds of litter can hurt their feet, so you might also try changing the kind of litter.

Your cat has a urinary tract infection or crystals, because of high PH in the urine. You must 1. change his diet immediately to urinary formula or Hill's c/d.
2. take a urine sample to a lab for analysis and culture
3. consult the vet for treatment.
4. Give him canned food and not dry, and add some water in it too.
This behaviour is typical for cats with that problem, because they associate the litterbox to some discomfort they feel while urinating. It is common to male neutered cats, and it can cause blockage and death if not treated in time. Make sure you check that he does urinate properly.
