I know what you mean - L plates etc seem ridiculous especially for older brides or for couples who already live together.
A very stylish bride I know had party bags for her hen night - they had all sorts of girly things in not necessarily bridal things - stickers and glow sticks and a lolly (we were going clubbing).
We copied this idea subsequently but found more 'hen' type stuf on the the internet. All the hens had a ribbon necklace with a picture of the bride an groom on it, a straw with a willy on it, a pack of party poppers and some sweeties.
I've also seen hen parties out and about with different t-shirts on saying who they are - helps them all remember too if you are bringing friends from different areas of the bride's life together so the t-shirts could say things like 'Bride to be', 'Bridesmaid to be', 'Mother in law to be', 'Bride's friend from Uni' that sort of thing.
Getting hen's to bring little gifts is a nice idea. I have done this once with nice gifts and we had a little ceremony and once with more 'adult' gifts where the bride only got the gift if she answered a 'Mr and Mrs' type question correctly.

I've never heard of an L plate nor a bachelorette party where you provided her condoms for the wedding.
What are you looking for? Ideas for a bachelorette party? If you are going abroad, you must already know where. Where is abroad to you?
I had a friend go to a spa for 2 days. a complete de-tox of your system and all that. I've also known people to fly to Vegas cause anything happens in Vegas. Great time, lots to do. You could go whitewater rafting. Thats what my husband did for his and I was so jealous but my bridesmaids were not the rafting type.
Give us some more to go on. What are her interests? Is she a real girlie girl? Studious? Adventurous? I'd consider skydiving to be a last great thrill. Take a trip up to the mountains. Ski mountains have that summer thing where you roll down the hill in a hamster ball. It seems fun. Course it's March now so you could still go skiing for real too.
Would she rather just relax on a beach? You could borrow a friends boat for the w/e and learn to ski, tube, whatnot. Layout and get some sun.
Wine tasting is awesome. Rent a limo and go to a ton of wineries to the tasting room. (Often free but rarely more than 5 dollars)
I always enjoyed giving the bride dares. Like pin a whole lot of truth or dares to her veil and make her pick one every hour. It can be kiss a bartender, ride a mechanical bull, scavenger hunt type of things. Anyway just a lot of random things and every hour she has to do one of them.
We really need to know where you are I guess to know if any of these work for you.

Here is an idea that is one of my favorites and can be done anywhere. You can buy or make 4x6 cards that have different honors written on them -- "Sexiest Eyes," "Nicest Butt," "Best Lips," etc. and the bride-to-be has to give them to different guys at the bar and take her picture with each of them. Usually the guys are really good sports when they know it's a bachelorette party, and they'll indulge your fun. Plus it's hilarious, especially if the bride is usually shy (it's also good for a shy bride because it's not totally offensive or embarassing, just fun!) Good luck and have fun!
