In defense of priests (never thought I would say that) they live on rather meager means. True their housing and food is taken care of but it is usually no great palace. They for the most part live humble lives. Bishops, Cardinals and of course the Pope are a very different story.

I'll avoid a vicious answer and simply tell you what the Bible says on this subject:
1 John 3:16 By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 17 But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?
