My father was recounting his time in the Army doing National Service the other day, and we both thought how it might benefit the UK if school leavers still had to do two years.

This is something I would seriously like to pursue, but how to go about it? With our Armed Forces cut-backs there surely aren't the resources to deal with such a large volume of temporary recruits? How else could they be trained and employed- maybe with military discipline but in a civilian capacity? Do you have any thoughts? I'd like to see then rebuild our once-great Royal Navy, personally!

How can I go about getting the right people hearing my ideas- do I have to stand outside Downing Street waving a 'Bring Back National Service' banner or is there actually someone I can write to?

Thanks!

PS: A big thank you to all of our serving and retired forces personnel and Reservists for your work.

Contacting your M.P would be a useful start. You could also start a on line petition which would be presented to the Prime Minister. To do this checkout the Number Downing Street 10 Petitions Website.

You're living in the past. We don't need big armies any more - we need good technology.

You say you would like to see a "rebuilt" Royal Navy. what does that mean. You want more ships? For what purpose? And where are you going to put all these unskilled recruits that our highly skilled armed forces would be lumbered with? On these ships you want built? Do you know what size crew the new T45's will have?

The last thing we need in this day and age is national service! But if you feel really strongly about military service, I presume you will be down your local Forces Careers Information Office first thing on Monday morning.

i think of it is an surprising concept see you later because it does no longer inevitably contain in simple terms militia training. A 2 365 days era of strict discipline and sophisticated artwork for the community at super is in simple terms what the feckless adolescents of right this moment pick. I do get excitement from that there are some between the age team in question who would be appalled at having to combination with the scumbags, yet i'm particular that their innate intelligence gets them by it. in simple terms think of of each and all the unskilled jobs that must be performed by skill of those youths. it may shop on with to females too. it particularly is the militia discipline that's needed, no longer the militia skills. Repeal the Human Rights Act. It does no longer something yet reason the criminal equipment to be clogged up and each and all the particular rights needed are already enshrined in British regulation. Then we could particularly shake the rats up. no longer something like a spell interior the army Nick to furnish them a style of exact existence or dying.

The modern army is professional and specialised the last thing they need is modern youth who don't want to be there constantly whinge about their human rights and having to take drugs tests. The days of national service when the UK no longer ruled a quarter of the earths population. The rot as set in now and whole generations not having served as before the present generation would not be suitable to be conscripted and would be a burden on the army.

Firstly it would not be a bad thing.Taking some of these teenage yobbos away from there mums and mother state for a couple of years would be a Godsend to law abiding folks and would not do the good kids any harm eiher. The Law prevents any sort of discipline by parents, police or schools nowadays so lets give the Military the opportunity. It is affordable.I expect lots of harsh words from the younger end for this ''innit''!!!!!!!!!!!.You can wave your flag wherever you want, it aint going to happen. There is as much chance as bringing back capital punishment.==no chance.

I am sorry but your idea is ludicrous unless your idea is that only the unemployed underpriviledged workshy scruffy drug abusing alchoholics get drafted. But i don't think the navy would want them except to wash dishes and clean the decks. possibly drafting them into the human race would be all thats required. And if you really know your history about our once great royal navy it was the ships of the line that were the great advantage

It is a load of tosh when they say we couldn't afford national service. Of course we shouldn't overwhelm or damage the professional forces. But you can set up special brigades and services for national service men and women which would have their own allocation of senior officers to oversee them. I strongly believe national service is needed for this generation of youth and that it would do them a world of good. Most young people around where I live live half-lives of drug taking and wastral behaviour (not to mention mugging grannies and knifing people). They need discipline.

I hope they do bring it back.
We'd have a lot less crime and anti-social behavior.
