it my be really strange but im a hair dresser and wether the head is clear or headlice i dont bother as long as you sterlize everything after use,
next -- i would wash her hair first using a non tangle conditioner leave it in as long as you can to help reduce some tangles use a large toothed comb start at the bottom first working upwards make it a game with her you never said wot age she is deal with the tugs first headlice are the least of your worries take it a step at a time going very slowly if all else fails are you local if you can let me know the outcome

Good luck, it sounds like an awful task. I am concerned about how painful combing out 6 months of tangles would be. This may be impossible if the girl has a phobia and you may need to resort to cutting some of the hair.
I would advise getting the girl involved in what you are doing, trying to get some of the tangles out herself and realising what a mess she has let her hair get in, this may teach a lesson in self care at the same time. Use nice smelling conditioner and give her something to entertain her, a magazine or music so she can focus on something else.
You don't say how old the girl is but if it is suitable it may help to take some paracetamol before hand to slightly lessen any pain.
I hope it goes well.

oooh its freaky when theres a nit ifestation about and most peoples first reaction is to start to scratch a good product is tea tree oil but the combing out every 2-3 days for 2 weeks is advised as they keep coming up to 2 weeks its not the chemical treatment its the combing thats important with a fine tooth comb good luck

conditioner is the best for nits !!!!!!!! take small sections of hair, hold it firmly at the roots and start combing at the ends and work your way up the piece of hair, doing it this way is pain less for the person and makes it alot quicker for you.i wouldn't waste your money on chemicals as most nits are immune to it these days, just conditioner and a fine tooth comb and keep combing and combing till they have gone then, like the other person said TEE TREE,YOU CANT BEAT IT FOR THE PREVENTION OF THE LITTLE DEVILS, good luck

All sounds good but one other thing - After you have used the nit solution and go to wash it out, use TEA TREE shampoo.....Nits hate it!! This should prevent any reoccurence of the nits if she uses it then at every shampoo afterwards - Hey, it's worked for me this last few years - I have 5 kids under 7 and not one of them has ever had nits!! Hope this helps.

Yikes.
Bribe her. Have her hold something perhaps as you brush out the hair. Maybe use in addition to the conditioner one of those "bed head" or no more tangle sprays.. and wash it again.
Good Luck. Perhaps if she has a "prize" from her mom waiting in eye sight she may do well.
I once had an Amish patient in nursing school her hair was below her rear. It was so dirty, and full of tangles. I used patience and small strokes.

Well, If she Has a phobea that is seriouse. She is very afraid to get her hair brushed SO. Maybe try not Brushing it. Combing it and "plucking" Out the nits with your Fingers? :]
OH, And also Wash her hair thouroughly, Talk to a doctor about what he can do?
