I made a fruit salad for a pot luck at work doing the following:

diced red and green apples
can of fruit cocktail drained
2-3 bananas diced or sliced
can mandarin oranges drained
handful of fresh red seedless grapes
a handful of dried craisins
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

I sprinkled Fruit Fresh on salad to prevent bananas and apples from turning brown also sprinkle a little sugar on salad and mix well. You can also sprinkle cinnamon on salad too for a variation.

Orages grapes nuts... here is a pretty decent "recipe" for furit salad

This fruit salad combines chopped peaches, strawberries, bananas, and red and green grapes, dressed with a simple fresh lime and pineapple juice dressing.
INGREDIENTS:
6 peaches, peeled, pitted, and chopped
1 pound strawberries, rinsed, hulled, and sliced
1/2 pound seedless green grapes
1/2 pound seedless red grapes
3 bananas, peeled and sliced
1/2 cup granulated sugar, or less, to taste
.
Dressing:
juice of one lime
1/2 cup pineapple juice
1 teaspoon ground ginger
PREPARATION:
Combine chopped and sliced fruits in a large serving bowl; toss gently. Sprinkle with sugar. Whisk together remaining ingredients in a small bowl or 1 cup measure. Pour dressing mixture over fruit and toss gently to combine.
Cover and chill the fruit salad thoroughly before serving.
This fruit salad recipe makes enough to serve about 10 to 12 people.

Why chop them up you are already cutting into the nutrisious vallue, the best value from fruit is to enjoy it as wholesome as possible .I love eating a crunchy apples straight off the tree,
bannanas direct off the tree,
I live in Egypt now and I can get most of my fruit within 1 day of being picked, it tastes so much better than in the Uk, and yes I have them for a working lunch "whole",

I use the following:

Sweet apples (Galas, Jonagolds), sour apples (Granny Smiths), Pineapple chunks, mandarin oranges, craisins, sliced strawberries, grapes, chopped walnuts, and coconut shreds. I also add about 2T of lemon or lime juice to keep the fruit from browning. It's also important to drain the pineapple and oranges before you mix the salad--otherwise you will end up with a soggy mess.

I would use strawberries, blueberries, watermelon, cantaloupe, grapes, and pineapple. The acidity in the pineapple may break down the watermelon somewhat so I wouldn't make the fruit salad too far in advance! You could also use bananas, again, the pineapple would save the banana from getting brown. Up to you!

Most fruit spoils once chopped up! One way to combat this would be to cover it in orange juice!! For fruit salad I love including apple, banana, kiwi, strawberries, blueberries, and rasberries

I had a great fruit salad alst weekend made by my mum -
apple thinly sliced, kiwi, orange segments, grapes, banana, physalis, dragon fruit and pineapple. With a little orange juice to keep it moist. A refreshing and delicious treat.

fresh pinapple will help keep any other fruits fresh and from turning brown. Star fruit, grapes and orange segments hold up well. Fruit kababs with yogurt dip are great and easy to take anywhere. Just thred your favorite fruits on wooden skewers

I usually opt out of banana cos it goes a bit brown and squidgy when I make fruit salad to take to work. I like putting pomegranate in mine aswell.

Any melon keeps when chopped, it doesn't turn brown like apples and bananas. A good mix is cantaloupe, honeydew, watermelon, and grapes. Berries also keep, and would add extra flavor.
