Dear JC,
I am a born again Christian, not a Watchtower Witness but I have been discussing this same question with jws for many years.
Scripture does not say anything remotely resembling this however the Watchtower says it so that is what their witnesses say. Scripture however does tell us very clearly how to determine whether someone is speaking God's Word or making prophecies in their own word. Deuteronomy 18:20-22 is very helpful to Christians however the jws I've talked to seem to just blow right on past it saying "People make mistakes".

It is in the Bible. If you study The Bible thoroughly and use the Bibles dates and chronology given for our benefit, then you will know that 1914 was indeed the time when Jesus began to rule as King of his Father's heavenly government. The first thing Jesus did as King was to throw Satan & his demons out of heaven. (Revelation 12:7-9) Where were they thrown to? Down to earth and Satan was not very happy. So he decided to cause great trouble for the earth ( Revelation 12:10-12) and what happened in 1914? The whole world became involved in war and since then, the world has not been the same. Satan still knows his time is limited before he is destroyed and so he continues to turn as many away from God as possible.
You can say that because the year 1914 was not given to us by the Bible writers, that it is not a fact, but remember that the word trinity is not mentioned either and yet many believe in it .
Matthew 11:25---"At that time Jesus answered and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes."
The wise ones are not always given insight. Sometimes spiritual light is given to the meek and teachable. That is why years of study and Bible education is necessary to help us to understand the deep things of God.
These are my own thoughts using the Bible as my guide.
J.C. --Without bias and predjudice, you would need to examine the entire theme of the Bible, which is the establishment of Jehovah's Kingdom--from the first prophecy at Genesis 3:15 to the book of Revelation, to get the answer you want. Unfortunately, the Bible has too many Scriptures to quote. A free home Bible study will help you.

Jesus started the Judgement phase of his ministry in 1844
53: The Sanctuary
The scripture which above all others had been both the foundation and central pillar of the advent faith was the declaration, "Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed." Dan. 8:14. These had been familiar words to all believers in the Lord's soon coming. By the lips of thousands was this prophecy joyfully repeated as the watchword of their faith. All felt that upon the events therein brought to view depended their brightest expectations and most cherished hopes. These prophetic days had been shown to terminate in the autumn of 1844. In common with the rest of the Christian world, Adventists then held that the earth, or some portion of it, was the sanctuary, and that the cleansing of the sanctuary was the purification of the earth by the fires of the last great day. This they understood would take place at the second coming of Christ. Hence the conclusion that Christ would return to the earth in 1844. {SR 375.1}
But the appointed time came, and the Lord did not appear. The believers knew that God's Word could not fail; their interpretation of the prophecy must be at fault; but where was the mistake? Many rashly cut the knot of difficulty by denying that the 2300 days ended in 1844. No reason could be given

for this position, except that Christ had not come at the time of expectation. They argued that if the prophetic days had ended in 1844, Christ would then have come to cleanse the sanctuary by the purification of the earth by fire; and that since He had not come, the days could not have ended. {SR 375.2}
Though the majority of Adventists abandoned their former reckoning of the prophetic periods, and consequently denied the correctness of the movement based thereon, a few were unwilling to renounce points of faith and experience that were sustained by the Scriptures and by the special witness of the Spirit of God. They believed that they had adopted sound principles of interpretation in their study of the Scriptures, and that it was their duty to hold fast the truths already gained, and to still pursue the same course of Biblical research. With earnest prayer they reviewed their position, and studied the Scriptures to discover their mistake. As they could see no error in their explanation of the prophetic periods, they were led to examine more closely the subject of the sanctuary. {SR 376.1}

You keep asking all these questions about our beliefs, which are based on the Bible in its entirety and thus rendering it quite difficult to provide a full answer here.
Perhaps you could have an in depth Bible Study with us, one-on-one, and then you could ask your questions there, and a more beneficial interchange of thoughts would take place.
It would cost you nothing and would be at a time and place of your convenience.

In my opinion you will not get a Jehovah's Witness to answer your question as you have asked it. Like many other churches, the Jehovah's Witnesses take a scripture, interpret it according to their philosophy, then teach that interpretation as if it were the words of Jesus himself. At least most churches won't disfellowship you for publicly stating that you disagree with their interpretation. The JWs will.

It does not, but I guess they have to come up with something for their false predictions about 1914.
Abdijah : in 1897 the Studies in the Scriptures, Vol. 4, on page 621states
"Our Lord, the appointed King, is now present, since October 1874,"
This is just one example of false claims but the Watchtower

Two lines of evidence point to that year: (1)Â Bible chronology and (2)Â the events since 1914 in fulfillment of prophecy.
Read Daniel 4:1-17. Verses 20-37 show that this prophecy had a fulfillment upon Nebuchadnezzar. But it also has a larger fulfillment. How do we know that? Verses 3 and 17 show that the dream that God gave to King Nebuchadnezzar deals with the Kingdom of God and God’s promise to give it “to the one whom he wants to . . . even the lowliest one of mankind.” The entire Bible shows that Jehovah’s purpose is for his own Son, Jesus Christ, to rule as His representative over mankind. (Psalms 2:1-8; Daniel 7:13, 14; 1 Cor. 15:23-25; Revelation 11:15 - 12:10.) The Bible’s description of Jesus shows that he was indeed “the lowliest one of mankind.” (Phil. 2:7, 8; Matthew 11:28-30.) The prophetic dream, then, points to the time when Jehovah would give rulership over mankind to his own Son.
Rulership over mankind, as represented by the tree and its rootstock, would have “the heart of a beast.” (Daniel 4:16.) The history of mankind would be dominated by governments that displayed the characteristics of wild beasts. In modern times, the bear is commonly used to represent Russia; the eagle, the United States; the lion, Britain; the dragon, China. The Bible also uses wild beasts as symbols of world governments and of the entire global system of human rulership under the influence of Satan. (Daniel 7:2-8, 17, 23; 8:20-22; Revelation 13:1, 2) As Jesus showed in his prophecy pointing to the conclusion of the system of things, Jerusalem would be “trampled on by the nations, until the appointed times of the nations” were fulfilled. (Luke 21:24) “Jerusalem” represented the Kingdom of God because its kings were said to sit on “the throne of the kingship of Jehovah.” (1 Chronicl 28:4, 5; Matthew 5:34, 35 - So, the Gentile governments, represented by wild beasts, would ‘trample’ on the right of God’s Kingdom to direct human affairs and would themselves hold sway under Satan’s control.—Compare Luke 4:5, 6.
For how long would such governments be permitted to exercise this control before Jehovah gave the Kingdom to Jesus Christ? Daniel 4:16 says “seven times” (“seven years,” An American Translation and Mof, also Jer. Bible footnote on verse 13). The Bible shows that in calculating prophetic time, a day is counted as a year. (Ezekiel 4:6; Number 14:34) Revelation 11:2, 3 clearly states that 42 months (3 1/2 years) in that prophecy are counted as 1,260 days. Seven years would be twice that, or 2,520 days. Applying the “day for a year” rule would result in 2,520 years.
When did the counting of the “seven times” begin? After Zedekiah, the last king in the typical Kingdom of God, was removed from the throne in Jerusalem by the Babylonians. (Ezek. 21:25-27) Finally, by early October of 607Â B.C.E. the last vestige of Jewish sovereignty was gone. By that time the Jewish governor, Gedaliah, who had been left in charge by the Babylonians, had been assassinated, and the remaining Jews had fled to Egypt. (Jeremiah, chapters 40-43) Reliable Bible chronology indicates that this took place 70 years before 537Â B.C.E., the year in which the Jews returned from captivity; that is, it took place by early October of 607Â B.C.E. (Jer. 29:10; Daniel 9:2)
How, then, is the time calculated down to 1914? Counting 2,520 years from early October of 607Â B.C.E. brings us to early October of 1914Â C.E., as shown on the chart.
CALCULATING THE “SEVEN TIMES”
“Seven times” = 7 X 360 = 2,520 years
A Biblical “time,” or year = 12 X 30 days = 360. (Rev. 11:2, 3; 12:6, 14)
In the fulfillment of the “seven times” each day equals one year. (Ezekiel 4:6; Numbers 14:34)
Early October, 607 B.C.E., to December 31, 607 B.C.E.= 1/4 year
January 1, 606 B.C.E., to December 31, 1 B.C.E. = 606 years
January 1, 1 C.E., to December 31, 1913 = 1,913 years
January 1, 1914, to early October, 1914 = 3/4 year
Total: 2,520 years
What happened at that time? Jehovah entrusted rulership over mankind to his own Son, Jesus Christ, glorified in the heavens.—Daniel 7:13, 14.
