You get kidnapped by some radical organization. You are in a room with a stranger, whose asleep on the floor.

There is a gun.

A voice comes over the speaker and says,
"That gun has one bullet. Only one of you will leave this room and go back to your loved ones when only one of you is alive."

Do you go home to your loved ones, or will the stranger?

Whoever dies of starvation first doesn't make it home.

First off, I'll be the honest one on here. I wouldn't have needed that stupid voice over the speaker and I wouldn't care if there were only one bullet. If I were kidnapped and the guy fell asleep I'd kill him.

The stranger might be in on it. I'd bash him over the head--keep my gun with one bullet and make a dash. After all, you don't know this guy. You might not be starving to death, cause he might pick up the gun and shoot you. If it really is a different guy over the speaker, I can use my one bullet on him.

But if a guy breaks in to my house and threatens me, I'd pick up a gun and shoot him. If there were four bullets I'd shoot him 4 times. If there were no gun, I'd pick up whatever I could and bash him over the head.

I'd see my loved ones again b/c I wouldn't want anyone to suspect that I didn't love my family. I don't want some cop investigating going Hmm these 2 starved to death and this chick wasn't even smart enough to use the gun to escape. That I didn't care if I came back to my family. I'd do anything it took to get away from him and back to my family.

And for the genius who is starving to death, why didn't you pick up the gun and politely inform the speaker and stranger that you would be leaving now and it would be in his best interest not to follow you. Then you'd be home with your family and wouldn't have had to kill the bad guy.

Now a question from Criminal Minds--you and 2 of your friends are kidnapped. The guy says 2 of you will exit this room, one of you won't. You have to pick which one of you dies. What do you do?

I'm not sure I would trust a radical organization to keep its word and let me go home after shooting this person. I would start by taking the bullet out of the gun and further analyzing the situation.

If we are to assume that these people are serious, I would have to take control of the gun and talk to this person about their family before deciding whether I could really take him/her away from them. In the end, I might still shoot them.

Is this a "saw" type of hypothetical situation or what? The stranger would have to leave, because killing someone is against what I believe in, plus I know where I am going when I die, and the guy might not, so I would take the fall so he may get a chance to hear the good news of Jesus Christ.

I'd take the gun and take the bullet from it. That gun might make a useful tool and I wouldn't want to have to worry about constantly holding it. Depending on the size, I'd probably swallow the bullet if I could, no sense being paranoid about my new friend finding it. Then we'd wait.

I would take the spring in the gun out, pick the lock and leave without waking buddy up. You snooze you lose. Once outside I could trade the gun for a taxi ride home.
Naw, I would wake buddy up, he might have a car handy.

take the sleeping stranger "hostage". (this is assuming the stranger is an "innocent" , such as yourself.) Use the bullet in the gun if you have to. Tough question. If the sleeping stranger is a "terrorist",or "radical", he's a dumb one !

My wife just loves the "Saw" movies. Those type of situations just make me squirm. I guess I'd grab the gun and wait to see which of us could go without water the longest while looking for a way out of there.

i'll aim the gun at the wall or something and shoot....that way neither of us cud get killed, since there's only one bullet......of course, he'd wake up and we'll probably get into a physical fight and whatever happens then depends on what fate has in store for us...atleast i wudn't have to live the rest of my life feeling guilty 4 what i did...

Well I'll say the same thing that I said when I was watching Saw......I'm going home to my family damnit. Whatever it takes I'm going home.

I would feel horrible for killing someone who's just as innocent as me, but my family is the most important thing in my life and I'd do anything for them.

You are constructing a dilemma. There are questions without a "correct" answer.

Fortunately, these situations are uncommon in real life. On the other hand, it is difficult to keep your hands clean in all situations. That's a fact of life. Deal with it.
