what will I lose ,if anything, after installing mozilla firefox since it doesn't use activex? Will it be a seamless transition or will I have problems viewing stuff? I know virtually nothing on this so no detail is too small.

No you don't. I keep IE for the odd time when other browsers don't do the job...

1. You do not need to uninstall Internet Explorer. I E and Firefox can live in peace and harmony together. You can even have both open at the same time.
2. To my knowledge active X will not work in Firefox. However not many sites use it.
Active X is a bit of a security risk
3. Some sites will not display as they were intended in Firefox because they were written in nonstandard code that only I E can process. However with the addition of this extension in Firefox "I E view" you may quickly change to Internet Explorer to bring up the page as it was meant to be
Firefox is my browser of choice on my box. I hope this helps

Keep Internet Explorer on your machine. There are certain sites (like parts of Microsoft.com) that will only work with Internet Explorer. I also have an issue with Windows Media Player format web videos and Firefox, even though they are supposed to work, it doesn't on my computer. They do not affect each other, so there is no harm on having both on the system at one time.

You can set Firefox to be your default browser though, so it will launch from applications instead of internet Explorer. You can do this through the option menu. It also may ask you when you start it for the first time if you want it to be the default.

Other than the few issues, mainly with Microsoft, you won't notice much differnce.

No. It's a completely different program, they can both be loaded simultaneously - and even be running side by side.

Just download it, install it, and it won't affect IE at all - keep IE just in case you have problems with firefox, and need a browser (I usually keep IE, firefox, the original mozilla, and a few other small basic browsers just for emergencies).

some websites aren;t working with firefox, so cleverly, firefox has a plugin called "view in IE" for use with those rare pages that you can't view in firefox. I open internet exploder about once a month to view certain pages. You will quickly learn if any pages you commonly visit don't work with firefox. Like I found some features in shutterfly.com dont work great with firefox.

you dont have to unisndtall internet explorer. it is the defaulat browser of windows. you can leave it and install mozilla firefx. its not gonna hurt your computer .they both work jus f9. Some sites ask for activex control in fireworks. if it does you can simply go to interner explorer and surf the web through that.

I use Firefox and I keep IE around because occasionally there is a web site that insists that you use it or it won't work. Firefox lets you designate sites that will automatically start up IE when you go to them.

So keep IE around.... for a while at least.
