Many ancient cultures used a lunar calendar as the regular 29 1/2 day cycle of the moon is convenient for keeping time...and all recognized that the lunar and solar cycles differed by about 11 days a year. Some cultures developed corrections for this, others didn't deem it necessary. The Arab culture went along very well without intercalating corrections into their calendar.

The Jews, for example, had long since done so, intercalating 7 29-day months ( and a spare day or so) every 19 years to ensure that over that time period, the same number of days were counted.

That said, we have to realize that messages received from a Perfect God are interpreted by imperfect humans, and unfortunately, I also believe that most of those messages have gone through further revision each time that a human has rewritten the "Good Book" in it's many forms.
