I believe that is just a myth. A lot of women live longer than 20 years after they had breast cancer.

that is not true. my mom was first diagnosed with breast cancer when i was 9 months old... they told her she wouldn't live to see my 2nd birthday. Her cancer went into remission when I was 1. Then, it came back when I was 7...went into remission again. Then, came back when i was 12 and she died on my 13th birthday. I was able to enjoy 12 years of my life with her after her first diagnosis. I don't know where you got the 10 years, but everyone's cancer case is different. I know a lady that is a 20 year cancer survivor.

Absolutely not!! Doctor's are not God (or whichever higher form you believe in,) and therefore, do not really know how long someone will truly live. Although they do make very educated attempts to give patients a time frame if they wish to know, it truly is a best guesstimate. Each case is specific to each individual. There have been thousands of cases where CA patients have been diagnosed and given a certain time to live, and patients keep outlasting that time. Medicine today has come so far in the fight against certain cancers. More and more people are going into remission, and surviving now more than ever.

noooooooooooooo! i have never even heard that - that is ridiculous .. i know many people who have lived 15 - 20 - 25 years after breast cancer and other cancers. i think your getting this confused with the 5 year rule ... with breast cancer there is a 5 year rule that says that if your cancer does not come back within the first 5 years - that you are MOST LIKELY not going to get it again. however, i dont know if this still "rule" still applies.

My sister had breast cancer in 1993 - she's still alive and kickin' with no plans to die anytime soon. My mom had it in 1985 & again in 1995 - she's okay too.
