i have shoulder tendonitis and i take 3 advil a day before baseball practice so i can play through the pain everyday. Today i woke up and my stomach is hurting. I think its cuz of advil, but 3 a day is less than the advised amount. I'm wondering if this is just temporary and if taking 3 advil a day is too much. Ive been doing that for aobut a month.

Fix the problem - use a chiropractor (because they can use ultra sound to shrink the muscle damage) and massage therapist with the principles in the book at the bottom. (Aleve works better for muscles.)

Much pain is from muscles below is an example of what may help (based on headaches).
Begin with a couple swigs of molasses or a couple of bananas (natural muscle relaxers) daily - magnesium (which regulates many things in the body) and potassium (a needed building block for muscles).
Drink at least 1/2 gallons of water per day. Running a body low on water is like running a car low on oil is the analogy the head of neurology at UCDavis told my husband about 10 years ago.

Now to the cause - muscles - your back, neck shoulders and head have tender spots. They are knots in the fibers of the muscles called trigger points. It makes the muscles tight which makes them press on nerves and other things causing the pain.

The cure - start with a professional massage, (if this does not do it you probably need a chiropractor as well) you will also want to go back over any place you can get to 6-12 times per session up to 6 times per day rubbing (or lightly scratching on your head) every where that is tender until the knots go away. The place where the skull connects to the spine press up under the edge of the skull (to get to those muscles).

For more information read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. It teaches what to do and where the pain comes from.

YOU CAN TAKE 800 MG OF ADVIL EVERY 6 TO 8 HOURS 3 TIMES A DAY. SO NO YOU ARE NOT TAKING TO MUCH.

ON THE OTHER HAND IT IS HARD ON YOUR STOMACH. YOU SHOULD EAT BEFORE TAKING ANY PAIN MEDS.YOU COULD TRY USING PEPCID TO PROTECT YOUR STOMACH.
I WOULD GO SEE YOUR DOC TOO AND DISCUSS THIS WITH HIM OR HER. WE CAN GIVE YOU ADVICE ,BUT MEDICAL ADVICE SHOULD COME FROM A DOC.
BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!!!

3 advil a day shouldnt upset the stomach but you never know. I do know that prolong use of Anti-Inflamatorys is very rough on the stomach. You have to be careful because ulcers can develop.

I wouldn't worry about it too much (I used to need 5 at a time) I would however, try to see a doctor about using something else for the pain. There is everything from pain patches to prescriptions that may work better for you. (And if you're like me, you have to try alot of different ones to find the one that works.)

some people have a reaction to nsaids...if it persists try taking tylenol instead and see if that helps...also for tendonitis alternate heat and ice ...warm compress for 15 mins followed by ice for 15 mins...doctor told me to try that when I injured my shoulder a few years ago..good luck to you
