Goods works is a good thing; however, good works is not what makes us a perfect person in the sight of God. It is the redemptive power of His son through our new birth that makes us perfect in His eyes. It is written that our works is as filthy rags before a perfect God. Our perfection is only through the one who died and rose again on the third day.

You can't be a perfect person, no matter how hard you try. Living a Christ-like existance is "trying to be the best you can with what knowledge you have obtained in scripture" but... you'll never be perfect, you will always fall short. We all do.
