vit. E oil, mederma, or neosporin (triple antibiotic)...either of these work, massage into the scar daily. you need to massage the scar to release scar tissue and promote blood flow to the area to promote healing. it usually takes about a year for a scar to fully heal!!!

It depends on what kind of scars you are talking about. I have a 12yr old son and have suffered with stretch marks from my pregnancy with him for years until a few months ago I started to buy Trilastin SR and it has faded them dramatically, I'm going to keep using it until they're gone, it's amazing. As for a cut or something like that id say Mederma or vitamin E capsules like other people here have said, definately the vitamin E, really works wonders. Then there are scars from surgery, I dont know what to tell you there. My boyfriend had brain surgery twice due to cancer and there is nothing that will ever be able to reduce his scars from that. So good luck with whatever your problem is from.

You can choose from hundreds of ointments and salves that have little or no effect. They all appear to work because the only real cure is time. Just like every hiccup cure always "works" because eventually they stop on their own. I do advise that you stay away from anything containing any form of alcohol. It dries the skin no matter what the products claims are. Go to the pharmacy or beauty section and you'll find the good stuff. Don't be afraid to ask the pharmacist for help, they're a fund of information and (unless they're really busy) are more than happy to help.
I do think the tattoo idea is good though, unless it's a really large scar or in a prominent place.

The absolute best thing is DMSO and vitamin E oil combined and spread on the scar. Just a little bit each time--it can irritate the skin--about twice daily for a week or two, and the scar will be on its way to disappearing completely, or nearly so. Best of luck.

Try using cocoa butter in any form. Stick, or jar cream used morning and night will eliminate most scars and darkened areas of the skin. . If you go to the dermatologist they will recommend an ointment call benzacaide which is also good but more expensive than the cocoa butter cream.

I used mederma after I had my stitches removed from my forehead and I followed the directions and apply it regularly. Now my scar is barely visible. I would try it before anything else.

Mederma is ok, but I've tried vitamin E and worked, open the capsule and rub it on the scar.
