My dog has been in spain and france for over a year now. He has his PETS passport and his rabies vaccination would be due in uk next year, but in france and spain they want in annually. does that mean that uk might not allow for me to bring the dog back? defra said that after 3 months they become residents of the country they are in and will have to be up to date vaccinations according to resident country. But would they know when i took my dog abroad? do they scan the microchip when leaving the country? (i can't remember what they did when we left) should i just say that he's only been away under 3 months? anyone any suggestions?

When we left UK with our dog nobody took any notice on the ferry from Dover. I said I had a small dog but that's seemed to be it. However I am in Spain now, and they are very strict on vaccines. So I think it would be wise to have your dogs vaccinateded up to date before you return to UK and they put the stamp and stick the little label from the vaccine in the passport, so there shouldn't be any problem entering UK. Remember there's no rabies in UK but it's rife on the continent.

Hmm....i actually do not understand. I particularly have watched various episodes of the British coach "it truly is Me Or the dogs". rather a lot each episode confirmed a JRT as being the ill tempered dogs causing issues contained in the family members. It rather a lot makes it look as if each British family members owns a JRT. i understand this isn't so, yet, stumbled on it interesting nonetheless. i could wish that reliable puppy possession is mostly an identical no count number number which u . s . you stay in. This actual isn't an recommended truth as I particularly have in no way been to the united kingdom and characteristic no theory how dogs are added up there.

You would have to contact DEFRA about it. The rules are all laid down here, I think it depends if you have the certificate, proving that his rabies jab is still valid. It is a bit confusing though!

i belive it shouldnt be a problem. just make sure he is up to date with his jabs, like if the uk says every year and spain say very other do it every year. just be cautious.
they 'should' scan the chip.
talk with a local vet and they will be able to give you all the infomation.
good luck
